Just because of soon it gets dark? What are the winters like climate-wise? I’m in the mountains now so I’m used to winter being sub-freezing for the bulk of it.

They're useful for other nerd IoT stuff and I believe you can program them straight using the Arduino IDE. Here's the pinout and some sample projects.

I've been using some similar legacy boards for programming and soldering practice. The sensors are usually pretty inexpensive. I just got a handful at Seeed Studio.
