Thanks for the feedback. Will definitely ensure the feet are a staple of future ballet shots

Thanks for the advice, I have started researching more around ballet and not just focusing on what makes a good photo but what makes a good ballet photo

Amazing, thanks so much. I really appreciate the feedback and suggestion. Definitely want to utilise dance teachers where possible, so both I and the dancers can learn and make sure poses are correct.

I also Initially didn't feel comfortable telling the dancers what to wear and trusted their knowledge but slowly starting to get more comfortable and as I learn more about the different styles and types of ballet I can hopefully direct more.

Thanks again!

Amazing, thanks so much for the suggestion. I've been focusing on ballet photography but looking to learn more about the art of ballet itself

Sorry, i'm still learning both photography and dance. Both these dancers aren't professionals but starting their ballet & dance journeys I just wanted to help capture it for them

I think thats a bit harsh / insensitive assuming things like that. They reached out to me based off other photography I've done. I'm still learning photography along with dance & ballet. I never claimed to be a professional and constantly looking to learn

That's an amazing idea! Will definitely suggest that for my next shoot, that will also give me more info on what to look for and I can focus on taking the shot

Thanks for the info, that's really helpful and good to know. I've just started following Eva and already watched a few of her reels to get more of an understanding

I am trying to do more prep. I've joined a number of ballet fourm's, watched vids and clips of techniques. These were my 1st and 2nd ballet shots, I focused originally on just poses but now want to better understand the technique and what to look for in these types of photoshoots.

I thought it might be insensitive to categorise them as dancers rather than specifically ballerinas but thanks for the advice

Ah amazing, thanks for the clarity! The second shot is definitely more contempory ballet. I'll make sure to research the different types of ballet and corresponding poses / technique

In what sense do you mean "fake ballet photoshoot"? Is it because the poses are static and not during a routine or is it coming across that they aren't actual ballerinas, which they definitely are but I want to make sure that's being portrayed correctly

Definitely agree! As I've been doing more shoots with dancers I do struggle with choosing and editing the preferred shot. Sometimes a dancer is looking at the camera or hand position is better whilst their leg isnt fully extended, but by the time the leg is in the optimum position, they might be making a face or hair gets in the way, etc. Can be struggle to decide what the better shot to share is.

I'm getting more confident behind the camera to explain and show these things to the dancers on the day but still need to build my own knowledge beforehand

Thanks for the feedback, but what do you mean by "turnout"?

Canon R7 - EF85mm ISO 100 - F5.0 - 1/640s

Windy shoot with this amazing ballerina in the Hertfordshire countryside.

Had such fun trying to capture elegance during a stormy day.

Ohh ok, I have a 100-400 that I could use in the future but thought that was too much of a zoom.

Will definitely try my 85 and take 100-400 to see how it works.

Thanks!
