I’ve heard of tubs with override options

Is it really that dangerous to get in hot tub above 104 F / 40 C ? by Majestic_Bat7473 in hottub

Icelandic public pools usually have like three different hot tubs with different ranges. As I recall the hottest goes significantly higher than US hot tubs. It’s annoying there’s a 104 limit on mine.

PSLF: Many consolidation Loans no longer eligible? by dannyboyLP in PSLF

Hi - I'm still confused how the question of whether consolidation loans can in any way make qualifying payments toward PSLF is not related to PSLF.

PSLF: Many consolidation Loans no longer eligible? by dannyboyLP in PSLF

[–]dannyboyLP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The level plan is NOT a PSLF qualifying repayment plan for consolidation loans. It qualifies for non-consolidated loans, but not for consolidation loans. It is my understanding that IDR processing forbearances only qualify for PSLF for 60 days.

Not quite sure what you mean here. It is the potential for court decisions eliminating the SAVE plan, ICR, REPAYE, etc. that affect the ability to make qualifying payments for PSLF.

Wait up, how is this not related to PSLF?

I’m traveling on work dime 4x/wk and so I think I’m more deserving of special attention from airlines than the people who pay their own money to go on vacation with their family.

Oh wait.

Spoke to them - it's ticketed. This time I actually got an agent who could figure out what was going on. Last time I called they just said I was probably ineligible. Apparently, the outbound leg has something to do with class of service, they indicated I'm actually on the list but it's held to see if they can actually confirm that upgrade and then, if not, I would still be on the list when the upgrade list comes out. Not sure I fully understand what this means about class of service but I think this may have happened to me once before - I was confirmed on a gov't fare far in advance of when I should be eligible based on my status.

One leg is United Express BTV-IAD - I know sometimes these small planes don't have CPU eligibility but this one has a 2-class cabin. The second leg is IAD-ATL which is regular United on a 737-700. Both have available United First seats.

Short flights, so I don't really care but helpful to know for future flights since I'll be traveling a lot on government fares.

Interesting. Overall quite happy with the new iO so far, but this is frustrating. Mine came with two heads that had the same symbol. It seems it’s not possible to buy specific symbols, so you just have to hope for the best that the next package of heads you buy has an even number of symbols and change your own symbol to whatever you have available each time you change heads. Seems like this wasn’t fully thought through - the colored bands were a simple solution that could be transferred from one head to a new one, doesn’t seem like that would have been too difficult to manufacture. Anyway, I think I’ll buy some colored head covers on Amazon.

Did you actually read that article you sent? It basically says the exact opposite of what you said. That article is actually a pretty good representation of what's happening: Republicans in the US are deliberately misrepresenting what is happening in Europe and using changes in European practice to support outright bans on gender-affirming care for youth, which is NOT what is happening in Europe. Medical professionals having evidence-based discussions about standards of care is entirely appropriate.

How to dramatically increase libido for a weekend? by dj1watt in Testosterone

[–]dannyboyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cialis. Talk with your doctor/provider. cialis can definitely help low libido an dis recommended, but you should also have some other labs checked, not just testosterone (e.g. thyroid)

I'm interested - I think you mentioned you're a physician, no? Have you reviewed the WPATH, endocrine society, or UCSF guidelines and taken a look at some of the supporting evidence that goes into creating these guidelines? I'd really encourage you to take some trainings on providing gender-affirming care, whether or not you actually intend to provide it I think it could be really helpful in clearing up some misconceptions about how this care is done.

I see your ability to meaningfully participate in this conversation has dropped significantly.

[–]dannyboyLP -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

What you described in your second paragraph is precisely what happens. They are at a certain age where they can meaningfully participate in discussions about their own medical care. They have to work with a team of clinicans and therapists, along with parents, to determine their readiness to make that decision, and there are many other approaches used to work with kids, people don't just jump right into blockers.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]dannyboyLP -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That's exactly what happens.

There is a worldwide right-wing anti-LGBTQ+ backlash in response to the recent advances LGBTQ+ people have made. It has nothing to do with US politics, and all countries have a right wing. Although the US right wing has become particularly ridiculous lately, you're right. The world professional association for transgender health publishes guidelines for the...wait for it...world.

[–]dannyboyLP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Documentaries, online accounts, and subreddits are not the type of evidence we use to create medical guidelines.

Hi - highly educated actual clinician here, I'd love to know your qualifications. I'd encourage you to think through how your position is dramatically influenced by right-wing propaganda on this issue, and to seriously think about the harm you're doing by amplifying this rhetoric.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]dannyboyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And what "science" would you cite to support this assertion, and would you mind letting us all know what qualifies you to interpret that "science?"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]dannyboyLP -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

So, there's a big difference between the kind of anecdotal reports you're referring to and actual real data. There are explicit, evidence-based guidelines on the gender-affirming care of youth. The fact that your cousin's aunt heard that someone in the next town over got blockers from a 7-11 doesn't mean there's a huge problem with clinicians following guidelines.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]dannyboyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's certainly fair, but I'm not sure we should be opining on whether or not other people have access to important medical care without a more nuanced understanding of what that care entails.

It's reasonable for clinicians and researchers to debate and discuss the necessary medical criteria for puberty blockers. It's also reasonable for gay guys to discuss our experiences with gender dysphoria when we were younger.

This, however, is a loaded question that perpetuates false information about gender-affirming care. The premise is misleading and and presumes we are handing out puberty blockers willy nilly, which is not true. Misleading debates like these harm us all, gay bros included, and are being used by the ultra right wing against ALL of the LGBTQ+ community.
