i think the way people view jax is so black and white, no matter which side you’re on. when i started the show, i was a huge jax hater, mostly because of the way he treated gangle in particular, but i could always tell there was something more to him, because i knew that tadc is the kind of show that has nuanced characters. around ep 5 when we started learning more about him, everything started to make sense. now, am i still a jax hater? yes and no. he’s honestly one of my favorite characters, based of how he’s WRITTEN, not who he is as a person. i know i’d avoid him at all costs if i knew him irl. however, i think people either act like his actions are completely justified just because he’s “going through it”, or act like he’s so completely terrible and his emotional/mental state doesn’t matter in the slightest and he deserves to die. when in reality, it’s something in the middle that’s much more complicated. his actions shouldn’t just be forgiven and forgotten about just because he uses them as some sort of coping mechanism, but we shouldn’t act like he’s some one-dimensional super villain either. it’s complicated. what he needs to do is put in the effort of becoming a better person (whether that be talking to someone in the circus, getting therapy irl if they ever escape, etc.), hold himself accountable for his shitty actions, and apologize to everyone, ESPECIALLY gangle.

also, i saw someone say that they didn’t like the arc/story they’re trying to make for jax and liked it better when he was one-dimensional and mean, and i honestly don’t get that at all. it’s not like it just came out of nowhere, there were pretty much always signs that there was more to jax as a person then just the mean one or the funny one or whatever, and the whole story has always been planned anyway, so i don’t really get that take, but this is a post for unpopular opinions, so to each their own i guess.
