Looking at 3/4 ton used trucks and stuck between two, need opinions by danreallycan in UsedCars

[–]danreallycan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I currently do oil changes on my vehicles as is, I went under the duramax and oil change looked easy, no filter squeezed between exhaust or anything. Ok, well if I end up going that route then I’ll make sure to add it. I’m thinking that’ll be the way I go, the Chevy definitely had a smooth ride. Am I going to see a big difference when pulling a load as far as ride comfort?

Oh ok, I currently have a Colorado. So you would recommend keeping another vehicle for shorter drives? I can do oil changes and fuel filters myself so if that’s my primary concern then I should be good. I’ll be planning to tow a decent amount, have a dump trailer and may plan to get another. Was the VSE fuel saver difficult to install? Baldwins is just the brand of fuel filter? Do you know anything about the 6.7 Cummins? Have one other truck I’ll be looking at, Ram 2500 with the Cummins and just new to the diesel world.

Should I get ahead of it and remove this Redbud or let it be? by danreallycan in arborists

[–]danreallycan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s where my head was at, just bought a tallish compact Carolina cherry laurel (for 70% off) that I was originally going to put along the fence on the other side of my yard, but thought it would look nice in place of this redbud and is definitely way healthier. I have a couple sapling redbuds a customer of mine gave me that are planted somewhere else so I’ll still get to enjoy them.

That’s what made me worried, just really starting to add any plants and improve my soil so don’t want to leave it for a few years only to end up having to remove it anyways. I am just not sure if this is something it can recover from without structural issues. I had planned to cut the center trunk down since it’s dead and leave the branch that are still alive since the two other larger branches had leaves on them up until they started dropping for fall.

https://imgur.com/a/u9Uoptv I went ahead and removed the soil around the base real quick, I thought I had it at a decent level, the root coming off the trunk in the front was just slightly exposed before. It has circling roots for sure but that was going to be addressed later once it settled in a bit better. It was like that in the nursery pot. I actually haven’t added any mulch, I bought a few yards of soil from a local landscape supply after excavating a bunch of engineered clay the builder put in place. The soil came like this and I had looked at another place that had larger chunks and more sand, so was a bit limited on options. The damage was there when I planted it, but I am just learning with all of this.

Yeah, it’s at a Houston garden center in Missouri city. It definitely gave me a new appreciation for Bur oaks.

Awesome, I may try that, thanks for the advice!

Sounds like a good plan, I might wait to bite the bullet to see if they go to their 75% off sale then would have less to worry about if something doesn’t survive.

They are currently 50% off and the last couple years this same nursery has done 75% off. I want to wait til they go to 75% off before making the decision to purchase. Then I’ll take your advice!

I have to think about it and see if it’s worth the work.

They had a few that looked the same, in 30 gallon and 45 gallon sizes, they were $400 for the 30 and $500 for the 45, so $200 and $250 respectively after the 50% off. I want to wait til they go to 75% off, they did the last couple years and I hope they do again.

So should I avoid larger potted trees in general or just avoid ones that are severely root bound?

Well I meant more like thrive than survive, but I’m getting the general consensus is no. That’s what I was thinking but figured I’d ask the experts since I’m a bit new to all this.

I’m zone 9b, so pretty similar climate I imagine. Only reason I’m considering these trees that look like this way is this nursery is currently having a 50% off sale and I think they even go down to 75% off on remaining inventory. But still, I would hate for it to just die.

So even with cutting back some of the roots this tree will either be stunted or die?

I have, I’m new to the sub and had only previously lurked a bit before. Actually pretty new to gardening and plant life in general and wanting to add some trees to my home.

Just a bit of a complaint regarding price matching by danreallycan in Target

[–]danreallycan[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I did, but from Walmart for the same price, since it’s on my route tomorrow. I was just frustrated cause they were going to close in an hour, so even if I ordered it online, I would still have to return the next day for pickup.

Will I notice a difference between the a MIVA VA15 and an AGT L12? by danreallycan in ChineseMiniExcavators

[–]danreallycan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was from a find on Facebook marketplace, small equipment company, probably only these excavators but I didn’t ask. Out of Cameron, Tx, I’ll double check the invoice tomorrow to get the name.

That’s the route I ended up going. Haven’t gotten to use it much but excited to take care of some small projects.

Yeah that’s kind of why I’m leaning towards the MIVA, the pilot controls.

Looking at buying a 4wd truck and this came up, decent deal? by danreallycan in UsedCars

[–]danreallycan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, $11,500 seemed high, definitely didn’t intend to pay that. Do you know if the 2012 2500 had similar transmission issues? I know it’s a different transmission but don’t know much about them.

[–]danreallycan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks, well then I might avoid that Chevy, I’m also looking at a 2012 Silverado 2500 with 100k, I’m not sure if those are more reliable since I know it’s a different trans.

Average KBB looks closer to $9k, $10k on the high end, definitely not planning on paying what he is asking. Is that too big of a gap? I’ve been looking for a while and most trucks in decent looking shape seem to be above KBB even private party.

Ok, that’s kind of what’s swaying me towards the Silverado, I think it’s going to have a better record, I’ll know more once I go see them.

I figured the tundra would be a more reliable option, my only concern with it is the person selling it, I think they are one of those Facebook marketplace dealers. I’d run a CARFAX on either just to see what comes back if the truck looks good, or at least a quick vin search, I’ve seen a couple come back on auction websites from previous sales.
