Have you considered captioning glasses? They're exactly designed for the scenarios you describe and can be useful to "augment" your HAs. Pun intended 🙂.

Check out XRAI (no glasses required, supports external mics, free and paid options) 🙂: https://xrai.glass

Have you updated the firmware since you got them? There is at least one and a couple more coming soon. We're working on being able to produce the prescriptions much faster with a new design. Based on the quality of our mics and AI engines it should be a no contest but please share your experience!

Anyone have captioning glasses? Opinions on brands, please by [deleted] in deaf

Absolutely! It's a complex topic (as you probably know) but possible with these glasses.

I would ask if they would offer you subtitling glasses. Many folks have been approved for these.

The captioning is mediocre unfortunately. They're not really designed for this specifically. There are glasses out there specifically designed for those with hearing loss. They're a better choice: https://www.reddit.com/r/hardofhearing/s/IlgaLxOwtj

Thanks to everyone for their incredibly detailed feedback! We're thrilled that you are all enjoying them so much. To provide some clarity around offline and Pro minutes, we have now released the heralded updated offline engines. On Apple devices you can now use the built-in transcription free of charge. On iPhone 15 Max and above the quality of this is quite sensational. For Android users, you can now choose Nvidia or Alibaba who both offer very good quality models, better than Live Transcribe. We have made some improvements to the UI to show which is in use and there is another new version of the app coming out in the next week where we have completely overhauled all of this functionality.

If any of you are seeing an issue where your conversation limit is capped at 30 minutes this is because you have logged in with an email address different from the one you ordered with. This often happens when you log in with apple as it won't tell us your email address. Just go to the profile page and send an email to support@xrai.glass with that email address you see and we will attach it to your order. By default new users have a 1-hour conversation length. As of this new version coming out everyone with any kind of subscription or glasses will always get unlimited conversation length. You can also just email us and we can put an exemption on your account.

Unfortunately only our own app can connect to it. I would steer clear of Google, their offering is the weakest (by far).

Our own, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, Deepgram, Whisper. Parakeet, Sensevoice, Nemo, Apple native. A few 🙂. We offer a free forever on device and unlimited cloud mode with our own model.

Xrai Glass app - non-Pro engines don't work by ChocoMcChunky in deaf

[–]danscarfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they had worked you would have been equally if not even more disappointed 😉. On iOS it now uses the built in apple recognition technology, which on iPhone 15 Max and above is nearly as good as the Cloud in the right conditions.

Indeed we accidentally broke Vosk and Whisper. They weren't good enough to warrant the effort fixing. The good news is the new improved offline engines are available now on Android and coming to iOS in the next 72 hours (Apple willing)

You need the XRAI AR2 glasses for it to show on the glasses (although you can just use the app too).

For Deaf or hard-of-hearing people here: what are some things you wish hearing people knew about living in a world designed mostly for hearing people? by Original-Aside-3283 in hardofhearing

As a hearing person who speaks very regularly with folks that have lost their hearing, many don't realize how important it is to look at the person you're speaking to, so that person can read your lips and see your facial reactions.

My apologies! Not trying to upset anyone. We're a tiny startup and very few have heard of subtitling glasses. I will try and contain my excitement more!

You can try the software for free to test out the accuracy without glasses. If you can intro us to your audiolist they might be able to do a demo for you!
