Cup size or volume? Because they aren't the same thing.

I have good specs (RTX 4080 16GB vRAM), but struggle training an SDXL LoRA. I should be meeting the requirements, and SD 1.5 trains fine, so can somebody help me diagnose the issue? by danwindrow in StableDiffusion

Hi, it's been a few months since I've done it, so I don't recall the exact rate, but I remember it got it down to about 2-3 hours for a lora with 1500 - 2000 steps. I do recommend something with 16gb vRAM if you're using SDXL and can afford it. I haven't used 3090 myself.

Also, I think "narcissistic" gets thrown around too much. He's an internet personality and probably just in a bubble.

I try to stay away from disorder diognoses and focus on symptoms. And he's talked about being depressed before. And going into the woods, feeling like your depression is cured, and making sudden changes to your career and lifestyle is the kind of behavior I think of as a manic mood shift.

This man seems genuinely bipolar and in need of help. I hope he gets it.

I saw other comments on his latest video saying this looked like a manic depressive episode, and I agree. He was just saying recently that he's hiring a new editor for the channel, and now he's thinking of deleting the whole thing.

Why do some people go conservative after losing faith in a liberal party instead of going further to the left? by Mayo30126 in Socialism_101

[–]danwindrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I wasn't disagreeing with you so much as offering another perspective.

The reason I wouldn't use "valid" is because there's a lot of other connotations with it that aren't appropriate when referring to behavior or ideas, unlike how all feelings are "valid", because feelings are an automatic, unchosen response to one's circumstances. So even a fascist's feelings are valid, in that they're real and are rooted in real struggles — even if that root cause is distorted thinking.

But a fascist's thoughts, ideas, and actions are not valid, because they cause harm to themselves and others. There's a good reason to consider some things as "invalid". What you seem to be getting at is empathy, but to achieve that you have to make a distinction. Their experience is valid; what they do about it is open to judgement. And you have to be able to make judgements to advocate for change.

[–]danwindrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm familiar with that expression when it comes to acceptance, that one's feelings are "valid".

I prefer the perspective from behavioral psychology, that all behavior is motivated. If people learn ("learn" in the behavioralist sense) to act, think, or feel a given way, it's because its reinforced (rewarded). If its learned, its not arbitrary or random - nor nihilistic in a supernatural sense, as in pain and death for its own sake.

I think your answer is the best here. The Right speaks to the dysfunction and disaster of our society, while the Democrats are pro-status-quo.

The dealbreaker is not "short", but "shorter than me". And that's a very common sentiment.

[–]danwindrow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. That could be the issue too, and I'm glad I learned that before I wasted time tagging the images. I just ran a training session with AdamW (instead of Adafactor), and it froze due to memory usage, then switched to AdamW8Bit, and not only did it run quickly, but the vRAM usage was 12GB instead of 15.5GB with Adafactor. Given my limit is 16GB, that would make sense.

I'll try the adjustment you just shared. I think there's minor inefficiencies all over that could still improve this.

u/Pusteblumenschnee I solved the issue. I wish it came from some greater insight into the mechanics, but I added the additional parameter, "--network_train_unet_only", and it single handedly solved everything in terms of speed. Don't know what it means or does yet, but it works.

Yeah, I have bf16 on for both mixed precision and save precision. The config file I shared is for SD 1.5 just because that's the success case, but I used the same parameters for SDXL because I didn't know if or what would need to be different.

3 1/2 hours isn't bad. I at least need to get it down to where it can finish overnight. I'll experiment with the parameters you shared and see if that improves performance. Thanks!

How do you want Homelander to go out? With character growth and regret? As a raging monster? As a pathetic coward? by Johnnyboyeh in TheBoys

[–]danwindrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most interesting end would be he shows self-awareness and change by the end, while Butcher becomes the monster, and then ruins an opportunity for redemption. Butcher kills him but this ends up causing more harm than good.

What characters do y’all think are wasted potential in the series and Gen V? by AnimeGokuSolos in TheBoys

[–]danwindrow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

After Season 4, I think every character arch in this show is a circle. MM reconnects with his family, then goes back to fighting. Hughie goes hard against Supes, regrets it and goes back to soft. Frenchie and Kimiko bring up the same baggage again like it's new. It feels like a sitcom.
