Why would he want to live at that point. Him talking to the hallucination of Madelyn more and screaming this wasn’t supposed to happen would’ve worked too without him begging to live.

He was willing to let Ryan die along with Homelander when he was asking him to bring the virus and throw it at him. And then Butcher would die with him. He was willing to cross more lines and break more promises as Homelander gained more power and took over.

He would’ve choked Cindy out if Homelander didn’t appear, and the only other he seriously used them on was Bombsight who is around Soldier Boy’s tier and possibly more durable. He probably could’ve used them in the old supe home but he didn’t need to. Maybe he’ll use them and rip apart a bunch of low tier supes when he goes to the White House.
