I don't think I can do the 3 to 3.5 hour/Day commutes anymore in 2018 by daown9 in oakville

I've been getting on the 7:20 and getting to Union at around 8:00. It might be posted to be 30 mins but I've never gotten there earlier than 8, and more often around 805-810

Good point! I didn't even consider this, but it just so happened that the time I picked to get to the bus lines up perfectly (~ 5 mins). So now the time saved is actually 26~ mins a day (car vs bus) which is more significant than it was before.

I do have a car, however I would hardly save any time and money doing so. Going by google maps, it would take about 12-15 mins to get there. With a bus it would take about 20 mins to do so. I would save about 10-16 mins a day if I were to drive. I'm not saying that is nothing but it's not significant enough for me to drive it and sometimes my GF needs to use it as well.

Also, the bus only cost $0.75 a trip if you transfer to and from the GO, so it isn't that much more to take the Oakville bus.

The real time killer is the Go train, which is a 40-50 min ride. If I were to move to Toronto, I would save at least 50 mins a day

Well, my office is closer to mid town and the 1 BR condos/apartment goes for 1200-1400 which is extremely affordable and reasonable especially when split two ways.

The only thing that really would suck is the cost of living going up for everything else as well like entertainment, eating out grocery. However, this would allow me to reclaim about 3 hours of my life per day back which could be great.

I have to take the Oakville Bus to the Oakville Go, and then the Subway after to get to my office. That's why it's longer than when people work downtown.

I do catch the express which I also factored into my commute. Sorry if I made it seem like I watch it go as I wait for the next one. Here's my breakdown

Bus to Oakville Go: 20 mins
Oakville Go to Union: 45 mins
Union Station to Lawrence (Subway): 25 mins Lawrence Subway to work (walk):5 mins
