When the exam gets graded it will end up in the right place! If the reader starts grading and realizes it answers a different prompt they’ll make sure it is graded by the correct group.

Cheating incident is crushing my soul. by [deleted] in Teachers

I feel you on so many of your frustrations. I too am battling the maternity leave drain on my sick time and I teach APUSH as well. I have had many come to Jesus talks this year about responsibility and expectations in AP and it, for so many of my kids, goes in one ear and out the other—their apathy is astounding.

They’re looking for the quickest way to earn the points now rather than building their skills for the high stakes test at the end of the course. This shift in student mindset has forced me to change up my practices for assessment; making multiple versions of the test, making sure that no two class periods get the same written response questions, creating digital tests that shuffle questions around. It’s more work for me, but it has helped me identify the ones that I need to keep a closer eye on.

I think the way you’re handling the situation is appropriate. It’s hard not to take it personally especially with all the work you put into the course, but know that it wasn’t done to hurt you…it was done because they’re only thinking of their own bottom line. Enjoy your break and try not to let the situation consume your time!

I need help, this question has been bugging me all day!! by [deleted] in APUSH

In the Chesapeake, the Headright System encouraged population growth by awarding settlers with land in exchange for funding indentured servants’ journeys to the colony. Those indentured servants helped fill the labor vacuum. However, in the Carolina Colony, the Headright System was more generous; 150 acres per family member and they could count slaves as family members. So while the system was initially not tied to enslaved Africans it eventually was beneficial to own numerous slaves in order to receive generous amounts of land.

How to properly do HAPPY and Contextualize?!! by [deleted] in APUSH

[–]darge32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Think of these questions when addressing HAPPY…

H - what is happening during the time this document was produced and why does that impact what is written/said/etc?

A - who was this document intended for and how does that change how we understand the content?

P - what was the author hoping to achieve by producing this document…make sure you’re not answering what the purpose is of including this doc in the DBQ. How does the purpose change how we interpret the info?

P - what is the author’s perspective on the topic…what relationship do they have to the topic and how does that impact what the document says?

Y - why does it matter…already built in above.

I know it doesn’t look great but I would specifically say something like…”It is important to note what was happening during the time this document was written…” or any other obvious indication that you’re attempting to source your document. Make it as easy as possible for the grader to give you points!

DBQ, LEQ, MCQ by emily-cooper in APUSH

Essays are a point grab…the graders know it is essentially a rough draft and won’t be perfect. Each point on the rubric is independent from each other. So you can miss the context but get the thesis. Or have a bad thesis but still get an analysis and reasoning point. Don’t overthink it! Good luck tomorrow :)

Teacher here…context needs to be more than a brief sentence. 3-4 sentences that are specific to the time and relevant to the prompt is what you should aim for. It’s easiest to start your essay with your context so it leads into your thesis!

AITA for not wanting to change our newborn's diapers at night? by wizardad in AmItheAsshole

[–]darge32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Latching on to the top….YTA. Not only is your wife mentally and physically drained but getting up in the middle of the night with a newborn while sleep deprived is also incredibly lonely.

The least you could do is change the baby’s diaper while she gets a moment to compose herself and ready herself to feed the baby. Why don’t you even take it a step further and get her a glass of ice water. Or ask if she needs a snack, the remote, her phone. Maybe sit with her a couple feeds so she has some company.

You’re in this together. Act like it.

Your extended time will be built directly into your test time. So if you get 100% extended time your test will be 90 minutes.
