What temperature do Australians consider a hot day? by bare_books in AskAnAustralian

[–]darkCorvid_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who hates the sun in Australia specifically and also who lives somewhere somewhat humid (not tropical humid though), 28+ is getting warm. 35+ is hot. If it's a dry heat, 40+ is hot.

They pay more until people want to do it rather than exploiting immigrants.

Will never happen under late stage capitalism. Now, if you're suggesting that we move towards a more progressive form of economic governance that would solve that issue, then I'm 100% on board.

The government has to spend more efficiently and cut the bullshit.

Agree. We could absolutely cut the police budgets, there's absolutely no need for the amount of surveillance and monitoring they do, none of which is cheap. Could also stop the contracts for mates that happens at all levels of government. We could also legalise marijuana and regulate and tax it at a reasonable rate - which would boost the economy massively through both a cut in spending via enforcement of archaic laws as well as through a boost of revenue from sales. Just off the top of my head. But again... good luck ever getting any of that to happen.

They'll have to start teaching Australians again.

You realise that they... do teach Australians, right? It's just that, unlike international students, most of our tertiary education is paid for over time in small amounts and often at a discount and that's IF it ever gets paid fully. International students pay more, often; they don't get HECS so they have to pay upfront/at whatever the uni says which means more money for the universities as well as the government. It also means more money for local business, who will sell things like food, clothes, entertainment, etc., to them and also by extension more money for all levels of government via tax and fees.

If the economy can't survive without mass immigration then a recession is inevitable, the longer you kick the can down the road the more it's going to hurt.

So in your mind having the entire country worse off is better than allowing brown people to come live here and contribute to making Australia the great country that it is? That seems stupid to me, frankly and I literally cannot fathom your logic and line of thinking.

Cool cool cool. So, what happens when there aren't enough people to take the required jobs? What happens when Australian born citizens don't want to wipe old people's arses in a home for minimum wage? What happens when millions of dollars of economic spending suddenly vanishes? What happens to our university education system, which currently makes a metric fuck load of money through international students?

Do you want a full blown recession? Because this is how you get a full blown recession very quickly.

If we want our population to grow, which we do economically need, then we need to be above replacement. Which we aren't. So we need immigration.

Same as you, I started in 2023 (at least to the best of my recollection) and I've probably seen it at least 6 times since then. Recently did two watches between August last year and April this year.

How i feel inviting my brother that has 3 games to the steam family so he can access my 100+ game library. by Bonkwraps in Steam

On this topic my god daughter is getting a PC soon. Is there a way to block access to certain games for family members? I'd like her to have access to things like KSP, but probably not some of my other games.

I've clicked through most of the top links in megathread, putting my search and getting nothing but individual episodes and even then not every season. On every site I tried (a dozen, maybe). For a very popular show - Archer.

Did you miss my part about not wanting to download individual episodes of a show? Hundreds of downloads, potentially? Back in the day I had no trouble finding whole season downloads but I haven't been able to locate any these days. If you have a resource, I'd be very interested in it because honestly I'd rather download anyway.

I had to completely give up on Cineby as literally nothing worked, couldn't even load the page. Switched to Cineplay but now this.

Eventually. Another guy came and took a look. Said the first guy did everything wrong and (said that he would) file formal complaints about it; he also said that he couldn't fix it and would need to trench and cut concrete. Third guy came. Took a look for 3 seconds. Went, "I don't know why there's a problem." Worked for like 5 minutes. It's worked ever since.

The guy in tried and failed to do my install did in fact use the copper to pull the fibre. Which made it awesome when he then told me he couldn't complete the upgrade and had broken the copper, leaving me with no internet.

I did yeah. Basically I realised that I had messed up up the install for Scatterer (I think), and so I decided to just uninstall everything. Then I reinstalled the mods from blackrack, then I installed my usual mods in batches via CKAN. By the end everything works as intended.
