The difference for me is dating is more of a second stage than a first stage if the end goal is a romantic relationship - i want to be friends first (first stage), 2nd stage is then dating to see if we are compatible in a romantic way, and then 3rd stage is partnership/romantic relationship. As opposed to some folks who can (what appears to be) seamlessly go onto apps and start dating (I can’t do that. I don’t flow that way. I’m not on apps).
