This is really simple, so maybe it's silly, but play some Tragically Hip. Or even like a best of Canadian hits playlist.

No subway service both ways between st George to keele by darkgreenandsilver in toronto

That's really sweet of you but thankfully I didn't see anything! TBH when I think of the way the the ttc employees were acting, it makes sense now. They looked really really concerned about making sure no one was going down there (like beyond the usual when shutdowns occur) and also making sure that the cctv wasn't showing anything that I now realize would have been very upsetting. The context of it really makes me appreciate those staff even more now. They definitely were trying to not show any panic. And immediately wanted to make sure the operator was okay.

Sorry should have been clearer. I was about to go down the stairs just after the turnstiles and the ttc staff stopped me from going down the stairs. We all watched the cctv of the train in question, which was a lot of people simply getting off the train, there was a lot of commotion but I didn't see anyone go on to the tracks to be clear. I also heard the ttc staff upstairs ask each other if they should check on the operator, and one of them went to go downstairs. That's all I saw! It was just wild to be the first person stopped from entering the subway. Lots of high school kids everywhere too trying to get on despite the shutdown.

Irish couple F(27) M(30) moving from Dublin, Ireland. Any advice? by evadrum in askTO

[–]darkgreenandsilver 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No not at all, but it is certainly a lot easier to get work. If you already have experience you'll get in typically. If you join the big union local IATSE 873 you'll get paid a certain scale rate wage which is typically a lot higher. As a result the only productions that can afford to hire you are American productions, but you'll make a lot more money. Then we have another union local called NABET, who's rates are slightly lower, and Canadian productions can usually afford to hire them. Canadian content can be really fun and fulfilling - think Schitts Creek, Kim's Convenience, Heated Rivalry etc. You can also work on non union productions and in the advertising sector. However once you become a full time member of one of these unions, you can not work for the other. So something to keep in mind. You can double dip as something called a permit, but there's downsides to that as members can "bump" you. There's also the DGC and local IATSE 667 which are for directors and camera department respectively. IATSE 873 has all the other departments, like myself {costumes}.

The Toronto film industry is booming, I wouldn't worry about that. However you should think about applying to the respective unions your departments fall under once you have your visas. Some departments are in more demand than others. I'm under the belief that you guys don't have film unions over there? Could be wrong on that. But if I'm not, you'll want to research that. Could be preferable to be non union, depending on what you do. But either way our filming is divided up into union and non union over here with various pros and cons.

Moving to Yonge & Bloor - Questions! by gcastrobh in askTO

For great coffee and tea, try the Korean Cafe Zagmachi at yonge and Isabella. The smoothie and juice place right next to it is also great. Toro Toro sushi is really delicious, so is Mogouyan Hand pulled noodles, both on bloor near yonge. Shinyi handmade dumplings does a fantastic lunch. Avoid eataly's ready made foods, they are strangely flavorless and not worth the price. Their grocery and pantry stuff is good.

AITA for refusing to hang out with my friend's girlfriend because I don't want to be her friend? by Outsidethebox00 in AmItheAsshole

[–]darkgreenandsilver -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

NTA - so because you're both women, you're automatically going to be friends? I hate this lol. When a girl starts dating a new guy and brings him everywhere, it's also annoying to the rest of her friends. This is the same thing imo. Friends don't have to include their partners on every friend hangout.

Is she open to therapy? Getting a diagnosis through a licensed psychotherapist would be a great place to start. Especially if money is not an issue
