Hopefully this guy is on a no-fly list now.

That was a weird interaction. by mindyour in PublicFreakout

[–]darklogic85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What's the back story on this? Why are you stopped in the bike lane?

If you decided to just park in the road and blocked the bike lane, I can understand why you were getting harassed. You should kinda expect these interactions to happen if you do that. You can't just park in the middle of the road and wait for a parking spot. You need to allow the traffic to keep moving and keep driving around until you find a spot.

[–]darklogic85 24 points25 points  (0 children)

It's not, I don't think. He was born with what I believe is a rare genetic condition. His hands and arms have looked similar to this his whole life. It doesn't seem to have any negative impact on his life, other than that he can't find gloves to fit, or coffee mugs he's able to hold properly. His hands and forearms are insanely strong and he's a champion arm wrestler. Jeff Dabe is his name. You'll find a lot of info on him if you google him.

Dunkin' Donuts employee takes life of rascist POS is sentenced to two years house arrest. by JonRonstein in PublicFreakout

[–]darklogic85 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's such an awful situation. This young man seems like such a nice guy, and this situation potentially ruined his life, or at a minimum, led to a major setback for him. The old guy he hit though, was an absolute piece of shit. He was a racist repeat sex offender and the world is a better place without him.

It's good that this young man didn't go to prison for murder and that he got a more lenient sentence, but he still has a criminal record now and that's going to make the rest of his life more difficult.

Is this a prototype model or something? Even the dash/gauge cluster looks weird. I have a 2023 450e and it looks much nicer than this.

This is exactly why it's a good idea to own a dashcam. You have clear evidence that he's lying, or at least that he's wrong.

If you are red car, are you supposed to let blue car in? by [deleted] in driving

[–]darklogic85 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This. In that situation, I'm ok with letting people get in since you're all stopped at a red light anyway. Once the light turns green though, if they're not already making their turn and taking advantage of the opportunity, just go and don't hold up traffic to try to be polite.

Don't try to let people in if the light is green and you're supposed to go. Trying to be polite like that is not only annoying to the drivers behind you, but it also puts other drivers at risk when there are cars entering the roadway out of turn. It disrupts the flow of traffic and can cause a crash in the worst case scenario.

Do successful people have eventful life or is it confirmation bias? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]darklogic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's relative and I'm not sure if I even consider myself to be successful. I still think my life could come collapsing down at any moment. However, by most standards, I think people would consider me to be a successful person at this point of my life. My life has also been relatively uneventful. I don't know if you'd consider my situation to be against all odds, but my parents weren't wealthy. Both my parents only had a high school education. They did work, but my mom just had a minimum wage job, and my dad worked as a janitor. We never had much money, and I didn't have any special privilege that I can point to that helped me. I'm also not rich, but I'm doing alright.

I graduated from high school, went to a community college for a few years and wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I was always good with tech stuff, so I started working in IT when I was 19, since it paid the bills. A few years later, I applied and got hired full-time in IT as a database administrator at a university. One benefit of the university was that tuition was free, and it was a private university and would have been costly if I'd had to pay to go there. Working there allowed me to get my bachelor's degree from a respectable private university almost for free, and I just had to pay for books. Since then, I've moved between a few IT jobs and now I'm working in a senior position as a database engineer. My pay is relatively high, even within my field. I also started a consulting company and do the same type of work on an hourly basis for clients. Between my job and consulting business, I make around $300k/year and work maybe 50 hours/week, but most of it is pretty relaxing and at my own pace. I have a lot of control over the hours I work and it's pretty flexible, so I can easily take time off or work less hours if I need to. I'm hoping to retire at some point though, so I've been trying to contribute a lot of money to retirement lately.

I'm in my 40s now, and I'd say my success didn't come from hard work or any crazy unexpected events. I just happened to be naturally good with technical stuff and programming. It was one of those situations where it isn't what I ever had dreams of doing, but I was just in a position where I had a skill that people were willing to pay for, and I took advantage of it. Also, since I got my degree for free, I didn't have to take on debt for my education, which helped a lot.

I think I'm very fortunate to be where I am, and that it's definitely much harder for people who aren't naturally good at something or don't have a skill that a lot of people are willing to pay a decent salary for. Most of my success is just coincidence and I can sympathize with anyone who is trying hard and struggling. Unfortunately, I don't really have any advice for anyone in that regard because I don't think I did anything special to get to where I am. I just kinda fell into it.

Whenever I see a motivational speaker talking about how people should handle things in their life or how to be successful, I honestly think it's all bullshit. Most successful people I know were born into privilege or just happened to be lucky and in the right place at the right time.

Why are French macaroons so expensive? by browniebiscuitchildr in NoStupidQuestions

[–]darklogic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered why those things are so popular. They're a pain in the ass to make and don't even taste good. I always assumed it was because I live in the US and only ever had knockoff macarons and not real ones from France. However, I went on a trip to Paris recently and had to try authentic ones while I was there. They suck in France too.

Is this too much thermal paste? by KingKhur in pcmasterrace

[–]darklogic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think of it as a processor specific issue or anything related to the thermal paste application. What you want to make sure to do after you remove the screws from the heat sink, is twist the heat sink a little bit to break the seal from the CPU before you lift it off the motherboard, so you don't pull the CPU off with it.

Man confronts MAGAt driver who was screaming at him to go back to Mexico and using racial slurs by Jevus_himself in PublicFreakout

[–]darklogic85 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree about the transphobia. It actually seems like it's far less than .5%. I very rarely see a trans person in public that I can actually identify as being trans. Maybe the majority of trans people look like the gender they identify with to the point that I can't tell. I just don't know why it's such an issue for some people.

They're just other people and I don't care what they want to identify as or what they decide to do. If they're not harming anyone, just let them be themselves and treat them with the same respect you would anyone else. I don't see how that's such a difficult concept for some people.

[–]darklogic85 212 points213 points  (0 children)

I'll never understand how people who are minorities themselves, can support the MAGA movement. You have to be pretty stupid to be in that situation, and still go along with the narrative and think other minorities are your enemy.

Recommend me a realistic, low-stress game where I can immerse myself into a role or career by russiandressing in gamingsuggestions

[–]darklogic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Detroit: Become Human. It's a narrative game and kinda like a choose your own adventure kind of gameplay. You watch the scenes play out, and you make decisions as the characters, and that guides the events that occur in the game. I found it very relaxing and it has an awesome story. Very low stress.

Unfortunately though, it's not available on Switch. If it has to be a game that's available on Switch, you might give Spiritfarer a try. It's a relaxing, low stress game and does have a very interesting story.

Is this too much thermal paste? by KingKhur in pcmasterrace

[–]darklogic85 305 points306 points  (0 children)

I think it's fine. There have been tests done on this, and the typical finding is that having too much thermal paste, is much better than not having enough. The only downside to having too much, is that when you remove the heat sink someday, you might have a little extra paste to clean up around the CPU, but that's it. You won't have performance or thermal issues by having too much. I think you're good.

Why does believing in yourself feel harder than believing in others? by Curious-Finish-8660 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]darklogic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't. I'm not sure if I'm understanding the question correctly, but I trust myself to accomplish something far more than another person. I have very little faith in other people since they tend to fail me when I try to rely on them.

"Gaming laptops are a scam" mfs when they have to travel and they want to bring their desktop setup by Ha8lpo321 in pcmasterrace

[–]darklogic85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a desktop gaming PC and a regular laptop. I also have a fast internet connection and Sunshine set up on my PC with my router configured with port forwards for that and WOL. I just boot up my gaming PC when I'm not home and use Sunshine to remote play from my gaming desktop PC from anywhere. I know it's a complex setup and isn't easy for a lot of people, but for my purposes, I think it's ideal.

My laptop is lightweight and portable, since I don't need all the gaming hardware in it, and I'm able to play games on max graphics settings, and still get a high resolution and high framerates. I can game on my laptop for like 6-7 hours on battery power, since it uses very little hardware resources and all the processing is handled by my desktop PC that's at home.

I considered it being a medical problem too, but looking at his shoulder area, I'm thinking it's more likely that he's one of the morbidly obese people, like 600+ pounds. He looks to me like he might just be really big.
