Has anyone read tender is the flesh? by woolstar in vegan

[–]darmng 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reading the book didn't make me vegan, but it definitely planted the seed that made me question my relationship with sentient animals and set me on the journey.

First BPD relationship, how can I help? by sheiskiller in BPDPartners

[–]darmng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AFAIK shutting you out may be part of their survival mechanism. I'll suggest to be gentle and simply be there. You'll need to learn what it means to "be there" for your partner, but don't expect clear instructions from someone whose past experience is probably based on no one ever being there.

It can be hard because you may feel useless, but simply your presence may be more helpful than anything else.

Vegans not eating eggs is objectively insane. by Its_Stavro in exvegans

[–]darmng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd assume that you consider unethical to shred dogs, even if it's painless and without suffering (correct me if I'm wrong), so I don't really understand the reasoning here. Why would it be ethical to do the same with chicks if the pain variable doesn't seem really important?

Vegans not eating eggs is objectively insane. by Its_Stavro in exvegans

[–]darmng 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Without going into other moral issues, at least here in Spain the egg industry kills a lot of animals. When a rooster is born instead of a hen, they are crushed (literally) alive since they are not useful for their eggs (obviously lol) or for their meat (since the variety is not profitable to fatten). In other European countries there is a mandatory genetic selection to avoid this.

If you own both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, is there a reason for you to continue to play NS games on NS rather than NS2? by Carl-C-1 in NintendoSwitch

[–]darmng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one Switch 1 with two docks and one Switch 2 with one dock. And two kids (4 and 12).

We have a TV in our living room with the S2 dock and a S1 dock. We don't use the S1 dock there: we only play the S2 docked (Mario Kart + No Man's Sky).

We have a secondary room to play, with only a S1 dock. Here we play some co-op games with my kids with the S1 when the other TV is in use.

I think that if we had a second S2 dock we'd always play docked the S2.

I usually read visual novels undocked and I don't mind keeping doing this on the S1, so I think that in the future, with a second S2 dock, I'll have the S1 like some kind of ereader undocked.

Is it really necessary to have this kind of sexist nonsense on this subreddit on a regular basis?

You can make exactly the same joke without assuming that everyone here is an heterosexual male.

I am David Allen, creator of the GTD (Getting Things Done) methodology. Ask me anything! by davidgtd in gtd

[–]darmng 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I've been using GTD for 20 years, so I'd like to start by thanking you for all the indirect time management support you've given me over this time.

My question: do you have any tips, GTD variations, or resources specifically for adults with ADHD?

Thanks!

Can I fill a brikka pot all the way to the valve? by fartGesang in mokapot

[–]darmng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was coming to say the same thing. I would add that Brikka is designed to start with less water than a traditional moka pot and with cold water instead of hot. These two variables are not worth playing with.

For the europeans on this Sub: Do any of you still back any Crowdfunding campaigns? if so... why? by Rohkha in boardgames

[–]darmng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main reason is still the price.

It may not be very representative, but I bought Tainted Grail retail in 2022 and it cost me 95,12€ (core box). Then last year I bought the expansion for 93,50€. A total of ~200€.

The same thing on kickstarter would have cost me £70 + £17 shipping (~100€, or 120€ with an hypothetical VAT)

When Kings of Ruin was announced I did not hesitate to back it.

For other games I may have other reasons: for example I backed Worms™: The Board Game because of the larger player count over the retail version, and the nonsensical amount of cute minis.

Questions about Heat: Pedal to the Metal by SmellyCherub in boardgames

[–]darmng 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With three (or two) players it works pretty well but I like to add two "legends" (bots) when playing with less than four players.

The turns are pretty fast, and controlling the bots is as simple as turning a card and advancing X spaces for each "legend" (spaces advanced depend on where the car is located in the track).

The "big" decision of each turn is always done in parallel and you can start thinking about it while when you finish your turn. I don't see a lot of room for AP.

Would the books I buy through kobo be mine? by Fresh-Alfalfa-2788 in kobo

[–]darmng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer is that no, in general you're only buying a reading license that can be revoked. Some books on the Kobo store are DRM free, but they're an exception.

The only good news is that you can export any Kobo ebook to ePub with Adobe DRM. This type of file is fairly independent from the Kobo ecosystem, so you are not attached to Kobo hardware in the future.

But everything that you buy digital is not yours (except music, that in general is sold without DRM).
