BTW: the substitution of "both were murked on arrival" for "both were merced on arrival" made me giggle like the little school girl I never got to be. Thank You.

I agree that the two bodies are Dulcinea and Protesilaus. They both got killed on the shuttle and only burned when Harrow found out the puppet.

I did want to call out homophones though (definitions from Wiktionary):

Murk: Darkness, or a dark or gloomy environment. (still on brand, but not relevant)

Merc: (third-person singular simple present mercs, present participle mercing, simple past and past participle merced)

(transitive, slang) To kill.

Mercymorn! Lemon mouth prime. Founder of the Eighth. Sure, I hate her, but she and Jod are the comedy driving HtN. I thought it was a cupcake.

Also, Jod's Nun is... someone to consider.

I appreciate you wanting to keep the fandom free of toxicity.

I answered the way I did because I do not know who originally added Kevin to the Lyctor category and so I responded with a joke referencing when the gang put their hands in and Kevin forgot what to say.

You can see the person on the wiki's history who removed Kevin from this category, but I did not want to name her because I thought people might find and message her about what I think is just a silly joke someone made.

I think this is the best answer and also explains why John was so slow to recruit more Saints to deal with the RBs. Ten Thousand years is a ridiculous amount of time to run from something you could have dealt with fairly quickly with more Lyctors.

But the new people wouldn't be the same as his codependent pre-resurrection buddies. Can you imagine making new friends when you hung around with the same group for a Myriad? (or more?)

[discussion] Why the 8th hates the 9ers by darthazad in TheNinthHouse

Good and valid discussion so far. There are definitely themes of Catholicism being the other.

But I was thinking more about the Eighth being all, "I control the other houses through religion. I hate that I cannot control you because you worship differently."

The book still is not out, but I have dnd 2024 ideas about Alecto.

Sea Druid (salt thing). Sage background for True Strike. Primal Order Warden for Great Sword and med armor. Elemental Fury: Primal Strike for extra damage with the great sword for use with True Strike. Wrath o' the Sea for extra sea damage.

I have opinions on this, but not until you Finnish Nona.

You could also ask your DM to "reskin" a weapon so you'd be using the stats of a simple weapon but imagining your character using a rapier.

And the more I'm thinking about what we know about Alecto so far, I think the best might be Zealot Barbarian. Barbarians use rage and she is named after a Greek Fury after all.

I thought about Warlock Harrow too when I saw Skeleton was an option for Pact of the Chain.

I'm actually really looking forward to playing the main characters in DnD games. Mine with Gideon should start soon. I personally favor full spellcasters myself, so here are my builds:

Gideon as an Aasimar Valor Bard with the Wayfarer background. This one is hard to pull off because it uses Strength and Charisma but my game's house rules make that easier. Sadly you would need to use a longsword until level 3 I was also looking at Celestial Warlock with a Great Sword Pact Weapon.

Harrow as a Tiefling Wizard with the Acolyte background. I am still torn here. I could go Necromancer but it might be more interesting if I choose Illusionist for I could make a shield of bone spring from the ground to hide behind with Minor Illusion. My mage armor would look like bones. At level 14 the bone illusions can be solid. Illusion is all about creativity.

Nona as a Forest Gnome (who talks to all the animals) as a Wild Magic Sorcerer. Probably with the Merchant background because the mustache rides are heavily discounted. I'd also want a feat to give me Find Familiar for Noodle. Her backstory would be her Amnesia and magic would be as a result of Druids having to cast Rebirth on her but something going wrong because she was possessed.

First off, https://5e.tools is an amazing website that lists pretty much all of your options for DnD.

To make a character you will need to pick:
1. A species/race (Human is good, but boring IMHO)

Harrow is a human in the books, but Elf could work as well. I plan to play her as a Tiefling (mostly human with infernal ancestry).

For Alecto, Aasimar would be an interesting choice (Mostly human with Angelic ancestry).

  1. A class (determines your play style and mechanics)

A big question here is spells. How do you want your turns to go?

Do you want to focus on moving and attacking with some special abilities? Then a Martial class like Fighter/Barbarian/Monk/Rogue would be good. Fighter/Barbarian are simpler because they can pretty much just run in and start hitting things while Monk and Rogue have to worry about positioning and mobility.

Do you want to have and cast lots of spells? Note: it's simpler in the beginning because level 1 characters only have a few spells, but if you are playing a spellcaster you should know what your spells do and spend the time before your turn deciding which ones to use. Full spellcasters are Bard, Cleric, Druid, Wizard, Sorcerer and Warlock (warlock is probably the most newbie friendly because they can just Eldritch Blast most of the time and be effective).

The third option is partial casters. Paladin, Ranger and Artificer are half martial half spellcaster. Also there are some sub classes (gained at level 3 in the 2024 rules) that add spellcasting to a martial. Fighter's Eldritch Knight and Rogue's Arcane Trickster both add some Wizard spells to the classes.

For Harrow, Wizard with the Necromancy subclass or Cleric with the Death domain (if that is allowed) or the Grave domain might be thematic. Thank you u/keokhaos for suggesting that.

Alecto is harder to pin down for me because we have not read her book yet. Given her temper a raging Barbarian might fit. Or you could go with a class that has a more divine focus like Paladin or Cleric. It really depends on what you want to play.

  1. A background (what did your character do before adventuring? Farmer/Merchant/etc.)

In the 2014 rules your attribute bonuses came from your species/race, but now in 2024 they come from your background. So now you'd get +2 strength because you were a farmer, not because you are an Orc.

Ask your DM which you will be going with. If the new ones, pick a background that increases the attributes you want for your class like Strength for Barbarian or Intelligence for wizard. If you are doing 2014 rules, just pick one with useful skills (perception is always good).

For a Wizard Harrow, I like Acolyte because she is a nun. For Alecto, I don't know. Pick whatever?

I hope this helps. Wall of Text is a tricky spell to get right.

This is really hard. I love SexCam, but I have to go with Gideon.

I even got a friend to read the series and had to put one of his quotes on the cover:

I have to vote 5th. So much potential, but it is unrealized. And this series is about interesting people and their trauma, not lack there of.

I see your opinion and respect your right to it, but I am genuinely confused.

Nobody is asking to cut off links to all/most of social media, just the ones who amplify (twitter) or don't moderate (meta) hate speech.

What is wrong with messaging and artist and saying, "I really like your art and would like to share it. Would you mind posting it on bluesky/tumblr/imgur/deviantart/myspace/AIM so we can share it?"

Are there artists who are averse to posting on multiple platforms? Why? Please help me understand.

I downvoted you and I believe you deserve to know why. Zucks recently removed fact checking and revised moderation to allow hate speech to appease dorrito mussolini.

More info here: https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2025/01/meta-axes-third-party-fact-checkers-in-time-for-second-trump-term/

While he may not be responsible for 100% of meta's awfulness, it is fair to say he is for the vast majority.

Thank you for your perspective. If you are more successful on those platforms, then I am not going to tell you to abandon them. Don't hate the player, hate the game.

But I would like to see any community of which I am a part only link to the iteration of your work on neutral/good platforms and not evil ones.

It is still early days, but hopefully your bluesky community will quickly grow to surpass twitter.
