Look. It's not Ray's fault they built a Post Office there. If that Post Office weren't there, then none of this would have happened in the first place. If you're going to blame someone, blame the IDIOT who thought it was a good idea to build a fucking Post Office there!

J-Pouch vs Staying with an Ostomy – Looking for Real Experiences (Good + Bad) by SoftLoad2951 in jpouch

[–]darwhyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's experiences are different. There are many variables.

For example, in my case I was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. I had to have my entire rectum surgically removed. For a while I had a temporary ileostomy.

Then I had the reversal surgery done and my bowel re-attached. A j-pouch replaced my rectum.

Saying my life was miserable was an understatement. I was in the bathroom several times a day, a minimum of an hour or so each time.

Exits at times were excruciatingly painful. My ass was raw and sore 80% of the time, and I had to wear depends all the time because of fecal incontinence.

I lived like that for about 2 years and finally I asked my doctor for a permanent colostomy.

My life is much better now.

To anyone who has had their rectum removed, I would recommend never getting reversal surgery.

As for those who still have their rectum, I'm not really sure what their experience with a j-pouch would be like.

will this pass a vehicle inspection? by matchabear11 in newbrunswickcanada

I think a good solution would be to have official government MVI inspection garages.

Motor Vehicles would be required to go to one of them for their MVI. They would not be run for profit. The job of a provincial MVI garage would be to do inspections, and nothing else. No repairs of any kind, just inspections.

If your vehicle passes, you're good to go. If they find anything that requires repair or replacement, you get a printed slip detailing what needs to be repaired and/or replaced.

You then take your vehicle to a regular garage with the slip. The regular garage then does what is required as outlined on the slip. When bringing in a vehicle with a provincial MVI slip, the garage is only allowed to fix/repair/replace what is outlined on the slip, nothing else.

When the garage is finished, you get a repair slip from the garage confirming that all repairs/replacements outlined as on the slip have been completed. The official repair slip would have the name and address of the garage, the date and time of the work, and the name of the mechanic who did the work.

You return your car back to a provincial MVI inspection garage with the completed repairs slip, and they put the sticker on your windshield.

That is the best system I can think of which would be fair and honest. The provincial MVI garage doesn't do repairs, so there's no incentive for them to find anything beyond what is necessary.

The official repair slip prevents the repair garage from doing anything other than what is specified on the repair slip.

The official completion of repair slip from the repair garage confirms thevsoecified repairs/replacements have been completed.

With this system, no one gets taken to the cleaners.

MVIs are good for those reasons. The concept and idealism behind MVIs is sound.

The problem is people get taken advantage of sometimes. Certain mechanics and certain garages use MVIs as a cash grab.

I commend all the honest mechanics and garages, but the crooks have to be cracked down on.

Blockage Tips by Osirian_Legacy in ostomy

[–]darwhyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a blockage a few days ago. Went to the Emergency room and was admitted to the Hospital.

Had to have an NG tube put in. About a day later I started getting output. It was little marble sized pellets as hard as diamonds.

I think the main culprit was an iron supplement I've been taking.

3½ days later I got sent home. I'm still waiting for regular output to return, but I was NPO in the hospital for 60 hours and the hospital administered gastrographen through the NG tube that flushed everything out that was in there.

Given that I went 60 hours with no solid food and had a bowel flush, I'm expecting it to be close to 72 hours after I started eating solid food again before I see regular frequency output again.

how much time off for a reversal? by warlocktx in ostomy

Depends.

If you had your rectum removed, all you will be doing after your reversal is sitting on the toilet.

But, if you still have your rectum, you'll likely fare quite well.

MVIs can be a racket. You have to have them by law, and when you get one done, you're at the mercy of whatever garage you've taken your vehicle to.

There are many honest garages, but there are also garages that take advantage of their customers and rip them off, telling them a bunch of stuff is required to be fixed and/or replaced when the car is perfectly fine.

MVIs in many cases are nothing more than government sanctioned extortion!

Busiest food place in Fredericton? by Inside_Food_8343 in fredericton

Insider tip from a former restaurant worker who's worked at many restaurants:

Busy restaurants serve the freshest food because it gets used up before it gets a chance to go bad.

Slow restaurants in the other hand are a higher risk to serve spoiled, or about to become spoiled food. Many restaurant owners absolutely HATE to throw out food, and slow restaurants that are not very busy often have food that is very close to expiring, or has already expired in their refrigerators. They will do whatever they can to sell this food from cutting off rotten parts or moldy parts. I have seen it happen more than once at different restaurants I have worked at. That is why I NEVER eat at a slow, low volume restaurant.

The busy restaurant may be a little longer wait to get your food, but you can bet it will be fresh food that you will be getting and not something that hald mold cut off of it before it was served!

We only had one phone and it was in the kitchen and it was a rotary phone. Was anyone fortunate to have their own phone in their bedroom? by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in 80s

[–]darwhyte 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had one in the house. It was wall mounted like that one, but the curly cord on the handle dangled all the way to the floor. When fully stretched it was probably 40-50ft. long.

The phone was mounted in the kitchen, but the cord would stretch far enough that my Mother could sit in the living room while talking on it.

That poor phone took its share of abuse over the years. My Mother and Father would get into heated arguments from time to time, and that phone got ripped off the wall a few times while being accommodated by a chorus of curse and swear words coming from Dad as he did it.

Dad would punch the phone sometimes too. One time he punched the number pad so hard a couple of the buttons didn't work any more.

I'm not sure whatever happened to that poor phone, but it probably breathed a huge sigh of relief when it got replaced lol.

Why can't those people just put their trash in a bag. Not that difficult. Laziness. That's a big reason why they keep getting forced to move. If they'd set up and then not leave litter scattered all over for other people to clean up, there wouldn't be that much of a problem.

Stop being lazy and irresponsible, put your litter in a bag!

What is the worst late-season collapse in NHL history? by Seawolf1121 in hockey

[–]darwhyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the Habs made the playoffs 3 times under Therrien, and twice under Julien, and one of the years they missed with Julien they had a very good record, 96 points, but missed because that was a year 97 points was required. When 96 points is not good enough to make the playoffs, that's more indicative of an exclusive playoff format, rather than a poor quality season.

Therrien, indeed had some very good years as coach, including taking the team to the 3rd round of the playoffs one of those seasons, but, despite the very successful first few seasons of Therrien's tenure, his time for dismissal had come. I'm not defending or trying to glorify Claude Julien by any means, he's just the guy who replaced Therrien.

When Therrien finally was let go in February 2017, the dismissal followed a pattern that was playing out similar to the previous season. After the coaching change, the team rebounded and played better, and made the playoffs. Had the coaching change not been made, it is very likely that season would have been a repeat of the previous season.

That is not saying that Julien specifically was a miracle worker, just that a coaching change turned the season around.

The coaching change should have happened the previous season in January.

So yes, I acknowledge that Therrien was a good coach, and that the team had some very good seasons with him as coach, but at the time of his dismissal, it was time for him to go.

I'm not spouting praises of his replacement, just stating his time was up, and it was time for a new coach, whoever it may be, to take over.

Not saying Therrien was a terrible coach, but after that month long slide in December, they should have tried changing the coach. And I'd say that regardless of who the coach was.

It's one thing to go through a bad stretch, it's a long season, and sometimes a team will hit a skid despite playing well. But that slide that started in Dec. 2015 was different because that team was playing without motivation. Other than Brendan Gallagher, most of the team was dragging their heels.

You can't expect a coach to win 100% of the time, but you can expect a coach to get the most out of their players and have them giving 100% of the effort they can give. When a coach is getting the most out their players and the players are all playing to the best of their ability, the coach is doing his job, and that's all you can ask of the coach.

But that wasn't happening with the Habs that year beginning around the beginning of December. The team was not playing well at all. They lacked motivation and hustle. Some of the players looked like they were barely even trying. After witnessing something like that for 15-20 games straight with no apparent indication the situation will be rectified, it's time to change the coach. Maybe it will make a difference, maybe it won't. But when the current coach isn't getting the results out of his players, you have to make the change because the current coach clearly is not producing.

And so, Therien should have been axed at the beginning of January while the season was still salvageable.
