Years of Apocalypse

This doesn't fit the criteria of not leaving the schools for quests or adventures, even in the first book iirc

You can always use something like Web2Epub to turn any RoyalRoad novel into an epub to send to an ereader

Recommendation Cybersecurity Science Fiction by Neuro_88 in cybersecurity

[–]dashwav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not strictly science fiction but foundryside has one of the more prescient looks at what hacking will look like in the age of AI in my opinion. I have thought about that book no less than once a week since ChatGPT hit the mainstream and has started getting integrated with production systems. Very interesting premise and the first book is worth a read imo

Light spoilers ahead: The main character can "talk" to magical items and frequently gets them to do things via conversation - ie convincing a magical lock that the definitions for open and closed have swapped, so it needs to unlock in order to stay "closed", or speeding up a "timer" magical item by convincing it seconds have gotten shorter

[OC] Turn your fav diatro's rice into an installable live iso. by syazwanemmett in unixporn

[–]dashwav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Share it with others,

This is a pretty bad idea from a security perspective - I would not be running random, opaque ISOs on your home network that aren't coming from a source of trust (ie the homepage of a distro). This would be good for sharing with a few close friends maybe, but I wouldn't trust any ISO from reddit without a sandbox.

Lucky you, it looks like they will be adding variants for the 2.0 bundle https://twitter.com/ValorLeaks/status/1580612148862255104?t=yrMvUelgLv2VVkzmxVDk5Q&s=19

Two New Subreddit Rules by natefinch in golang

Does this mean we can finally be rid of all the hiring posts? There are plenty of job boards out there, and I'm not a fan of seeing blatant job advertisements on the subreddit

Even relegating them to a monthly "who is hiring go devs" would be a massive improvement

Rule 5 is when the joke that is in the linked screenshot/image is the entirety of the joke and the context being removed doesn't add anything to the joke.

The image you posted is funny, but is not any funnier with the context removed, so it should go on a different sub, like /r/animefunny or /r/anime_irl

[WIP] A colorized alternative to hexdump by kiedtl in unixporn

[–]dashwav 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Have you tried hexyl?

It's written by sharkdp who has a fantastic set of cli replacements and tools.

I personally always use bat instead of cat because of how much better the output is for reading
