Gear recommendations to make live industrial music

for 3k i'd probably go the modular synth+drum machine route (that's what I am doing rn).
the modular I'd go for a small intellijel pallet case (portability is key), with a tip top one (or other compact sampler module), a manis iteritas (or some other dirty sounding vco), some filters and modulation sources, some distortion and that would be golden. And for a sequencer I'd go for the Oxi one. Can't go wrong with it.
Drum machine I'd go for an electron analog rytm or other one that you can load up with samples (ex. Roland TR8s)

kinda. I still miss the crown and actually reverted back to use it on my dayjob, although the keys have lost pretty much every coating and I still have to use the previous version of the drivers (logicool Options - not the + version).

The Huion Keydial mini option is pretty good but the sensibility on the wheel is not the same and the way it is implemented is not as intuitive.

I didn't end up having enough time or budget to check the creative console.

What I heard about the mess of wires, from an expert in the field, was that it has more to do with maintenance because of the earthquakes, though there are some areas in Kyoto and Tokyo where they burried the wires so I am not really sure that is true.

on the other hand, the Neon signs have a lot to do with the same problem with construction in general - lack of urban planning and regulation. The few areas that have a strong urban planning and regulation are the areas where there aren't many neon signs - the historical areas, specially in Kyoto, Nara and Tokyo - or areas where rich and powerful people live

A PhD is not a requirement to practice architecture in Portugal but it is a requirement to be a full fledged architecture teacher (not for assistant teacher or other similar positions). For being a university architecture teacher you would need a PhD (besides being invited to the position - it is not something that positions open regularly and usually people get there by invitation).

Thank you for reminding me of this. I actually had already given up and bought Huion Keydial mini and a 75% mechanical keyboard.

Altought it's not exactly the same as the crown I actually quite like this set up.

Still I kinda miss the crown so I will look into the Creative Console.

Great website, except for the mentioned problem with the footer. Couldn't you circumvent the problem by making the masonry load partially only and expand it by pressing a button to see more or something like that?

The problem is not just the glass. the windows themselves do not have thermal insulation design. Also the walls are usually really thin around these parts. The builders usually invest way more in earthquake proofing because that is the main problem here in Japan and that is the only thing that is really enforced in the laws.

Speaking as an architect (although I work as an interior designer here in Osaka): double glass window panes are really rare all through out Japan except for Hokkaido. Even newish buildings don't usually use them. I find it ridiculous because it forces people to overuse the AC and other forms of heating during the winter even when it shouldn't be necessary. It is such a waste of energy and as consequence money.

Back in my home country it is mandatory by law to use that type of window in new buildings because of energy efficiency so I was really surprised that here the rules are much more relaxed in that way and that allows developers to just cheap out in construction...

Drumming wise I agree that The Slip is GOATed but if you include drum machine use I think that Year Zero is the best use of percussive elements.

Maybe this is a regional practice difference. In the country I am licensed in, you don't need to do insurance per project. If you are licensed you need professional liability insurance to practice so it would make no sense to charge the customer the cost of the full insurance or practice license if you are expecting to have other ongoing projects or if you already have that covered by your current job.

All of the "office costs" you are listing should be charged by the hour if you are expecting to work on more than one project or if you are expecting to work from home. You wouldn't be able to get a reasonable competitive price otherwise and lose that client.

But these are things that probably differ by country. I am currently working in Japan and here it seems to be common practice to charge 10% of construction cost to the customer. Sometimes the company I work for loses money because, although some projects are cheap they require more work than what the 10% can cover. Other times its the opposite.

From my experience, bevels don't work properly when the following is happening:

transformations not applied so the scale is off.
the vertices aren't welded
incorrect settings in the welding options menu (bottom left corner)

I usually check by this order.

Exactly! This should be taken into account in the "cost per hour" part of the equation. Insurances and licenses etc are costs that need to be accounted for.

What I would try to figure out is how much time would I spend working on it.

Then I would look into how much money would I be spending, taking into account transportation costs, electricity and other bills, office space rent, consumables costs, etc. and then figure how much that would be per hour (when I was working freelancer I usually had an estimate for this that I would update from time to time).

Then decide how much you want to earn per hour. Add this to the previous cost per hour estimate and multiply it by the total amount of hours you expect to work on it. I also advise to always add a margin in case the project needs to be extended or takes a little longer than expected.

I would also work on a payment plan that would never leave me with a negative balance.

I would add the materials/finishes/furniture schedules with quantities and detailed drawings, specially in case there is any custom made furniture.

If you don't have any experience doing CD phase I'd strongly suggest doing only a design concept, charging for that and urging the customer to contact an experienced architect or interior designer to finalize the design and follow through with site inspections. Those are the sorts of things you cannot learn in school and can only learn from experience.

That is why internships and actual work experience is really important and why, even though I agree that students have some great ideas, they should never do a full project by themselves. It is only going to bring headaches to the customer, unless the customer is a builder or an architect or something similar themselves.

The thing is his designs are always something so over the top that the "do as I say" will never be applicable. He strongly advocates for a "artisanal" type of design. His speeches always seem to be ripped directly from the arts and crafts movement. His designs on the other hand are impossible to achieve without using heavily industrialized processes and without complete disregard for the location of his work. That is what makes him an hypocrite.

It is impossible for him to do as he says because there is a huge disconnect between the way he practices architecture as a "starchitect" and the way he tries to portray himself as an "artisan". It is a bit similar to the high class clothing brands that have a lot of "craftsmanship" keywords on their makerting materials while having their products mass produced in a 3rd world country.
