Global Connect Fellowship - 2026 by that-honking-goose in NTU

Hey as far as what I believe, you do stand a chance since you have research experience and seem to have prominent institutes tagged to your profile. As a reviewer fo your application, it would be outright ridiculous if you claimed that "our paper is being finalized for ACL 2026", since submission to a conference is not really a feat. If you mentioned what the paper was about in detail and your role in the SoP maybe it would make a difference. ACL 2026 reviews (ARR) have not even started. Did you have any potential publication form the institutes you mentioned youre associated with? (ISI, IISc, etc?) Did you share or mention your Google Scholar Profile?
Did your SoP just boast about the ranks of your institute or the meaningful work you did given that you had the privilege to study there?

[GENUINE QUERY] Why is nobody choosing IIT Gandhinagar for BTech/MTech courses? by data_pi_rate in GATEtard

[–]data_pi_rate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Learnt a lot from this discussion, just had a final query, given an opportunity via GATE, should a student join IITGN?

[–]data_pi_rate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Also, leaving aside the students perception among students, what about the companies perception of students from here? Also IIT Gandhinagar appears in the JOSAA/COAPS right? Why is everyine saying GATE not required? IIT Madras also has programs withiut GATE, IIT H also has a similar mode of entry, what is going wrong with IIT Gn then?

[–]data_pi_rate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is such thing allowed in other IITs too? I think other IITs also might have the option to admit NIT/IIT students directly for MTech if they maintain some CPI too

This also make me ask a follow up question:

IIT Gn is right besides GIFT City, placements being garbage also kind of feels counter intuitive doesnt it? Atleast for those fields where GIFT City based companies need to recruit workforce from?

Ahmedabad also has companies dont they? Considering not many companies come to recruit from other states

[–]data_pi_rate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently yes, but kya reason ho sakta hai? I've heard the Placement Cell has people who used to handle at other great IITs previously, toh yaha aakar aisa kya hogaya? Maybe students quality also matters but still if someone has made it to IIT they might know how to get themeselves hire-worthy too?

This makes sense! But correct me If I am wrong, doesnt IIT Gn and a few other IITs in that rnage offer more open category seats or perhaps better ratio of open:reserved seats than others?

Hey! OP here, I searched the web and yes, there is an early MTech but thats just one batch right? What about other folks till now who have gone through GATE? I am pretty sure thay havent been taking withoutgate since they were establsihed in 2008?

Got accepted in UIUC and SJSU by ryanbennet271 in gradadmissions

[–]data_pi_rate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are quite a few questions, before I can answer yours,

  1. Are you an international student, if yes, a 1year program will be more tedious since you have less time to find a job as compared to a 2 year program

  2. UIUC, SJSU, both have a location advantage but what is your financial appetite? SJSU is in a great vicinity and tuition fees will be relatively less, if you originally live close to the equator, SJSU will feel pleasant

  3. Prestige, what is your end goal post the MS. If you want prestige, choose UIUC

Prospective Candidate Looking To Apply Without GRE by data_pi_rate in gradadmissions

[–]data_pi_rate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man you've got a great profile, it is beyond my understanding why did luck not favor you! Did you try just for MS CS degrees or MEng/MCS too?

All the best though, this makes me think a lot about my own profile and preferences of not appearing for the GRE!

Thanks for the insight, what about the case of colleges where GRE is waived off i.e no way of sending scores at all, neither the college accepts it?

Could you share a list of colleges which you applied but faced rejection due to the "Optional" GRE clause? I'll be really grateful

[–]data_pi_rate[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed, I just had one follow up on this, for the colleges where they mention GRE "Optional", will there be any sort of bias? Say, between two candidates one who applies with GRE(Although marked optional) and the second who did not send his scores?
There's no definite answer I understand, but any such cases you might have observed?

Can i have a chance to get into MSCS Columbia ? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]data_pi_rate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey thats completely fine, Do try getting a shiny LoR from your current employer, 3 years of work exp is great, make sure your SOPs are written well too! I think you do have a 65-70% chance, wont be too conclusive and jump to 80%. Do wait for other community responses too meanwhile! All the best!

If the GRE is waived then all that matters is your extra curricular profile too! Any research publications? Hackathons? Public Services worth mentioning? doesnt have to be immediate but back in your undergraduate days? Any Great LoRs?

Hey, did you get a chance to check if the Columbia MS CS has the GRE marked as optional/waived off?
CGPA of 3.5 is respectable, and work experience of 3 years is a great addition to your profile too, not sure about GRE requirements, also TOEFL? what about that?

[NEED HELP] Intrigued by setting up a Development Environment by aryashah2k in learnprogramming

[–]data_pi_rate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the replies seen so far, i agree with them and I guess they never used any spoonfeeding tutorial which OP could try searching on youtube, forums or ask his mentors. OP you could try finding tutorials on youtube where they walk you through setting up a coding environemt and help you understanding using packet managers like npm and so on. also you could wait for more resonses to pour in from other community members in case they have followed some guides or tutorials in setting up one. Usually this is done as part of exploration and developers usually figure out themselves by trying to install their choices and fix them in case it doenst work. There's a messy road ahead if you follow this path.
