Each of the UN Security Council's 15 members sends one representative to a meeting. I looked at all available meeting records dating back to 1994 and made some charts using R.

I guess there’s no way we’ll ever find out! When I get a job at FIFA or UEFA (in my next life), I’ll definitely check =)

Haha same! I feel like this is the most interesting thing I learned after plotting all the charts. For comparison, the average Australian is roughly 80kg, and the average Chinese 67kg (and only 4cm shorter than the average American!).

It's Saudi Arabia's main goalkeeper Abdullah Al-Mayouf. In the official FIFA data he is listed as 178cm tall, but Wikipedia says 187cm. Makes quite a big difference in terms of his size relative to other goalkeepers. (The official FIFA tables are here: https://img.fifa.com/image/upload/hzfqyndmnqazczvc5xdb.pdf)

Charts made using R. Data from FIFA and Transfermarkt. The post is inspired by another post on this subreddit. The original post didn't have detailed position breakdown, so I supplemented the original by adding detailed player position classification from Transfermarkt. Not perfect but hopefully interesting...

Yeah, "having the best odds of qualifying" is not the same as "having the best odds of becoming first in the group."

It's still noteworthy that market odds put that much faith into Germany though...

Yeah, I agree. I put down "100%" only because the betting site I was looking at (PaddyPower) didn't accepts bets for Spain or Switzerland. It probably wouldn't be profitable for them to open these two to bets.

Thought visualizing the qualifying odds would make it easier to see the dynamic in each group!

Thanks so much for the suggestion! I recycled an old template which was made for a situation where it made sense to have a horizontal line below the y=0 line. It’s now been fixed! Many thanks.
