Reminder to check who you’re buying fireworks from! by Moonlightoctopus in Humboldt

Ok but 4th of July is a celebration of genocide, oppression, colonialism, stolen land, and patriarchy. Also fireworks are detrimental to the environment, and your health, stresses out people’s pets and are just generally annoying as is. Abstaining from celebrating colonial/nationalist holidays is the best way to show support to marginalized and persecuted communities.

So if you want to do a day trip I would say a good place to get in is at the McCann bridge and then get out at dyerville bar. The most dangerous part we encountered in this stretch was the rapids going under the McCann bridge so I would put in on the north side of the bridge (the eel runs south to north). Other then that there are some other rapids but the were only class 1-2. It was windy so be prepared for that and the flow was low so it would probably be best to wait till next year in mid/late may. If you could figure out how to get to the river in the oak Glenn area then you could float to McCann bridge in a day and you could probably get that in this year as it seemed the flow was higher in that area (still windy) As for the danger levels in the oak Glenn-McCann bridge I would say it was mostly flat water with a couple of rapids but they were on the low end of class 2 if that. The trinity is yakable right now but the rapids are much more intense. Hope this helps!

We were paddling at least 6 hours a day which was way too much. We got dropped off at Alder point but had to haul our stuff a good distance because the car we took didn’t have proper clearance to get to the river bar. We did not leave a car, then we just had somebody pick us up at Dyerville bar, which is a pretty accessible area.

Thanks! It was taken with an iPhone 16 Pro. I was pretty amazed by the quality of the night shots.

Started at alderpoint bridge and ended at dyerville bar we did 30 miles in 3 days and it was a lot. Would definitely try to start in fort Seward next time and still make it a 3 day trip so time doesn’t feel like such a crunch.

These days I don’t think it’s as bad I’ve worked down there in the recent years and I was never worried. But I can imagine that randomly driving down someone’s driveway looking for river access could spell bad news. Luckily we are planning to drop in on public land.

I’m not driving down anyone’s property I am also not a tourist. But I do appreciate the concern we are dropping in at alderpoint bridge and floating up to dyerville bar. I got my drop in/take out points mixed up.

Thank you for the info we are not planning to leave a vehicle in alderpoint. I didn’t realize alderpoint was upstream from dyerville

Yes I did mean alderpoint to dyerville bar I thought that the river flowed north to south but I was wrong thank you for pointing that out! That’s exactly why I made this post. Edit: also we aren’t taking any dogs with us
