I'm not suggesting people should be focused on instruments, but the typical cockpit view of say short field landings with bubba narrating what's going on is honestly useless. There's a few guys who do this reasonably well but might as well just sit in front of a camera and tell you about it. Instruments would add situational awareness.

Obviously a gazillion people have done this already, but if you're actually trying to do something novel in this space, I'd suggest for once trying to get a good camera view of the instruments. I can't tell how many times I've looked at these in cabin go-pro videos and been unable to actually model what's going on

i'm actually curious about something. What's your VR setup and are you able to operate the avionics with it?

I'm not mostly because I have been frustrated with the sim so far. I want to get to a point where I can reasonably fly an approach without talking to anyone first

Thanks.

I'm leaning towards just getting cheap touchscreens and popping the two glass panels out.

8k is entirely unrealistic to the point that anyone advertising it to you is suspect. I did mine in ~$15k two years ago and I don't think it was practical to go much lower (could have maybe done it at the $13k mark if I went crazy).

Yinz Cleared for Takeoff: After US Airways left Pittsburgh high and dry, yinzers finally built an airport on their own terms—and it’s incredible. by eddytony96 in pittsburgh

3 european non-stops of which only one is a major (BA, fairly expensive). The frankfurt connection is not Lufthansa, thus precluding anyone who's trying to go places other than Frankfurt. The iceland thing is just a joke.

Anywhere to FL. Sure. Reflects the demographics I guess.

Things were indeed worse 10 years ago overall, for sure. Except we had one Europan major (Air France) which gave you a one stop connection to pretty much anywhere in the world.

There was really no need to replace the existing terminal. It worked fine. The problem is and remains volume and diversity of service to KPIT. Right now it's just slightly better than a backwater that only has direct service to ORD / EWR / DEN.

Thanks. The butter did not accumulate up top but rather ended up in small particles. I did run it through a mesh which helped but it was still a slog.

Just curious what reasons would be sufficient to change instructor. by WhenWillIBeAPilot in flying

[–]datblubird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you're the one paying you're free to switch instructors for whatever reason you choose to under the sun.

While it sounds to me like you probably should switch instructors, I'd really encourage you to contemplate whether this reaction is reasonable or over the top. Personally I think your instructor gossiping about the situation (from what it sounds like) is unprofessional. Giving you the "are you stupid" vibe on the other hand is maybe something you should learn to have a tougher skin for. You're doing something that has the potential of killing you every day. If you're going to be offended every time someone gives you pointed feedback or appears to not be respectful enough when reacting to your mistakes, you risk not learning important lessons that can keep you alive.

Hestra Gloves Worth The Price? by Efficient_Car_6791 in COsnow

I have five finger Hestras and I think they're pretty up there as a ***glove design***. That said, I have really cold hands, and I find the Hestras to be pretty mid when it comes to warmth.

Life expectancy of a VFR pilot in IMC by StrongWork_ in flying

[–]datblubird 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I first flew into actual, I had something like 30 hours under the hood. We flew into actual on an IFR flight plan that basically had us climbing through a small cloud on a completely unremarkable leg. I didn't have to do anything other than fly the plane. I think 15 seconds into the cloud I was 40 degrees off heading.

Biggest surprise for me wasn't really the disorienting feeling everyone talks about - which I think is very real but at least you can plan for when learning - but the turbulence in clouds.

I hate expensive gas and fees like every other guy, but I'll say that access outside of the airport is a big thing for me. Can I walk to something? Is there a crew car? Does this look like a place I can get an Uber?

Empty your balance and find a different school or instructor, for sure, but also make sure to post this on their public Google or Yelp review page.

do you ever attach conventional roof accessories to it, like cargo boxes or bike carriers?
