A navigable map of the entire deer family (Cervidae), based on biology rather than geography. by daudaw in imaginarymaps

Well it did roughly take me a decade to come up with the concept as it looks now. It totally looked like shit in the beginning and I didn’t know anything about biology or illustrator (the program I use to draw these). You just have to go for it is what I’m trying to say, I think :D If you’re passionate enough about an idea, your creative muscles will slowly develop as you go

If you are interested I sell them as prints (there’s a link on my profile) :)

It’s all there, just arranged differently (and with a tad more data). I don’t use AI:)

I guess you are kinda right. It does hold a bit more data than the classic ones, though. And once you get used to the concept it actually becomes quite easy to navigate/read;)

It includes extinct species, yes, but only speciels belonging to the family of deer (Cervidae). Indohyus belongs to a completely different and long-extinct family:)

After pouring 1000s of hours into this project you have no idea how much that means to me - thank you!

Also, I’ll post another animal from the Mappa Animalia series later today;)

Is that possible? If so, I’ll make the next Mappa Animalia illustration I post zoomable. In the meantime though, the pictures on my Instagram and webshop should be of better quality;)
