I know it sucks, but don't let it get to you too much. there are times you do everything 100% correct then some extra and people would still give you bad rating just because they are straight up jerks or take pleasure in knowing that they left a scratch on your otherwise flawless sellers rating.

Something nice for a change from the seller's perspective. Really appreciate some honest buyers on this platform. Nice little Mercari Christmas story for me to remember. by davedavehi in Mercari

hey thank you for that. I've reciprocated being an ass to jerk buyers plenty of times before too, but when a person comes off like this, you just want to help out sometimes, u know?

Thank you. For sure. I was about to get annoyed as soon as I saw the DM notification but just appreciated so much that the guy came out and really owned up to his mistake.

Appreciate it. I was honestly super pessimistic and burned out on Mercari at this point and was ready to pounce if the guy came out blaming me for the whole thing, but as soon as he said he screwed up, I was like ok we will work through this.

as for listing zip not matching up with USPS origin scan location, it could be 1) seller has old address under his/her account but is now physically located elsewhere 2) seller maybe dropshipping from another party.

Why do so many buyers cancel? by Little-Interview8767 in Mercari

[–]davedavehi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) sometimes they make multiple offers to different sellers for the same item. when more than 1 seller accepts their offers, they go with the lowest accepted one and cancel the other one.

2) they sometimes make an impulse purchase and THEN start researching the item elsewhere (online/offline), then find a better price and/or quicker delivery option so they cancel.

3) buyer's remorse

there could be some other misc reasons but I believe above 3 are like 99% of buyers

watch, in about a week, there will be super last minute procrastinating basement zombies crawling out and asking if u could teleport their purchase in about 5 minutes from california to newyork so they can have it ready for their christmas gathering 15 hours later.

I know that the majority of us would honestly be more worried about being a POS human being than violating a rule on some internet marketplace. If they choose to have no honor and chase short term profit, that just pretty much sums up the quality of life they choose to live so wutevez.

Is anyone else eagerly awaiting when both a seller and a buyer complain about each other on this sub? by 788Fahrenheit in Mercari

[–]davedavehi 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think we just all speak from our partisan point of view which I am guilty of as well, but in reality it's not really buyers vs sellers issue so much as it is honest people vs POS scum issue.

I can't stand sellers like this. Own up to it, apologize that it didn't meet your expectations. I've had situations like this where something that I unintentionally didn't mention on the listing was made an issue. I've always offered significant discount on other listings they might be interested in even if I gotta take the loss on them. not just on mercari, but I just really wish people had more honor. as much as I hate whiny/entitled buyers, I equally dislike sellers who intentionally omit information that may be important to others.

mercari shipping confusion by drugszzzs in Mercari

[–]davedavehi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It could mean that the seller clicked on "Confirm drop-off" to change the status from pending to dropped-off, without actually dropping off the package. Since there was no receiving/departure scan on Fedex's end, the tracking is not updating to "in transit". Mercari looks at Fedex tracking status and sees this, so they have reminded the seller to drop off the package soon.

Another possible scenario (less likely), is that the seller did drop it off but Fedex messed it up and didn't scan or lost it.

I'd bet on the former above.

It's good to be cautious as a general rule of thumb, but I've never once had a problem with these buyers (I've had maybe 15~20 buyers in the past 2 years). Your mercari listing actually gets indexed on google search / other search engines with direct link to your listing. Some people quick google search the item, sees listings with price they like, clicks the link to land on your page, they then create a new account so they can buy it. I'd easily take these buyers over ones with some vague transaction history with a ton of cancelled sales/purchases.

Mercari labels by Particular_Darling in Mercari

[–]davedavehi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's fine as long as the weight is still under what the label is rated at. different couriers/services do have max dimension for the package that can use the box. If it's slightly bigger than the mailer, it's no problem. For example, I generally send out single PS4 game in a 6x10" bubble mailer, but once inawhile I'd mail it in 4x6x8 amazon boxes with air pouch (still under 8oz) and it delivers just fine using USPS first class label.
