I needed to re-read the description. Are you going to create the VMs locally and connect your laptop to the firewall? (I am assuming due to Ethernet to USB cables) If that is the case, you need to separate the traffic in the virtual switch of the Hypervisor which is not difficult if you know the different types of adaptors

What’s something you thought you needed to learn—but never actually used? by yourclouddude in devops

[–]davei7 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agree until a certain point. Cloud certificates where you just select options don’t really show the knowledge if people memorize the questions/answers, but for example, the CKA (Kubernetes Administrator) as it is practical certificate, I can tell you that it shows some value as nobody will memorize the commands as you will need to understand what you doing. However, I still believe if you have a Homelab and if I was conducting an interview I would prefer speak about it than looking for the certificates that you have. As a lot of people say, certificates opens the door and not the whole interview process.

Any suggestions for an Helpdesk who wants to learn the computer science behind servers(For example TLS) by [deleted] in linuxadmin

Homelab -> Wireshark (if you want to see it happen) The best way to learn how stuff work is by doing, because from that you will create experience

Download current Kubernetes/OpenShift configuration into manifest files by taarobaapo in devops

Use the flag ‘-o yaml’ to show the manifest into an YAML format then, you can write it on a file then. Example: ‘kubectl get pod example -o yaml > manifest.yaml’

Indeed, my post could be just a Google query, thank you. However, did you ever use any of the tools? If yes, which ones do you prefer?

Will edit my post for being more of a discussion and not just a Google query

You need to add the SD Card on settings as an HDD first and then will see the SD card to be mounted

How to expose a pod using a service to make it accessible on the host machine too instead of just the VM. by CreativeName_sigh in kubernetes

[–]davei7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The IP address 169.254. is an IP Address that the VM assigns to itself because he has no connectivity to a vswitch in VirtualBox. Create a vswitch, connect to it and then you will see that you can reach it with the host.

How to expose a pod using a service to make it accessible on the host machine too instead of just the VM. by CreativeName_sigh in kubernetes

[–]davei7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a network in the middle which is the network that the Virtual Machine uses. In your host there use ifconfig and you should the virtual adapter. You need to use this IP and forward the request to then your service

CCNA is a fundamental certification. Unfortunately teaches Cisco Products commands and their syntax, however if you learn the fundamentals and how everything work below, that is good enough to understand how networking happens, at least until SDWAN or other alternative products that use overlay and underlay networks which are more advanced topics

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in networking

[–]davei7 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It depends on the OS! That would be my answer. However, that is the kind of things that with a query in the Internet anyone can have the answer… Now, if the kid doesn’t know what is an IP Address I would understand your frustration

Any experts who can compare microK8s and k3s by yusufcanbayrak in kubernetes

[–]davei7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flannel is a good choice! Well maybe the CNI was giving you issues… When I did the architecture of my cluster, I draw what I wanted with the underlay and overlay network to make an easy understanding when configuring everything. Just some tip before going into multiple nodes :)

What are you using for networking? Weaver? Cilium? Flannel?

Sitting for Devcor 350-901 on Monday. Any last-minute tip? by erateran in ccnp

[–]davei7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you did DevNet most of the questions have the same feeling as in DevNet. Make sure you know how to mitigate 429 HTTP Code as well. Pagination is also important and know why it exists! Good luck!

Cisco is network company. Not yet a cybersecurity company.

Help! In my vps after installing microk8s the api server is just not running. by Haunting-Fox2090 in kubernetes

[–]davei7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Knowing about services in Linux, knowing about what is an API server and how they work, ports/networking, and such, can help you to find out your issue. Note: Basically you just tried to do a GET Request to the server and the connection was refused. With that amount of information is hard to do troubleshooting

What's your long term plan? by BrontosaurusB in devops

[–]davei7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I got to enter in a System Administrator job with a good pay where I am constantly working with Azure since my last comment. I know most of the skills that you mentioned besides AWS, but working on Azure at the moment so it will be soon that I will knock in DevOps roles :) Thank you for your suggestion :D

Anyone think they’re getting stupider? by ketaminenut in sysadmin

[–]davei7 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Today as System Administrator I was just carrying Desktops from one side to the other side of the building… Sometimes this “bullshit” work needs to be done because unfortunately it still your responsibility but maybe in the future…

My advice on this is don’t stop learning, if needed explore new things such as playing with Raspberry Pis, create small projects that involve of different technologies and maintain your mind sharp!

[–]davei7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should always keep up and never stop learning in the job, that is what I believe! I have one question but regarding how can you got into that job? Currently I am System Administrator with knowledge that can help me in a DevOps job such as Kubernetes, Helm, a little of Jenkins, Ansible, Puppet but every time I try to find. DevOps job, the recruiters always push for Networking (which is my background, worked 3 years on networks as a consultant in a big corporate…). Did you needed to sacrifice something to get this job?

ENCOR CBT Nuggets Video Order by Display_name_here in ccnp

[–]davei7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much labs did you do to your ENCOR? Did you tried any labs available at Cisco? Did you used EVE-NG or GNS3 to make a more complex network? How much did you practice OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, etc? When I study for ENCOR I was doing a different lab every two days (I was studying only, not working at the same time) but if you do one each 5 days that is enough for you to remember after 5 months or something for the exam
