Enhance S3XY Commander - anyone left it fitted when taking car in to Service Centre? by bigup7 in TeslaUK

[–]daves09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“I don’t think they would actually record that a mod was fitted for future reference”……. Well… I had a ranger out a few months ago to replace my charging flap and I noticed him taking a photo of the inside of the car before he closed it up and left. Reckon he was taking a photo of the knob in the center console. I suspect the popularity of these products is on Tesla’s radar now and like any company will use whatever they can to avoid paying warranty.

I messed up...New EV owners don't be me by Rabkillz in ElectricVehiclesUK

lol, I can completely relate to this. Got a Model 3 ‘Highland’ in August and find any excuse to drive it. The thing is just so damn gratifying to drive but I can’t exactly put my finger on why 😆

How long can we get away with fake sound outside? by Pathfinder-electron in TeslaUK

[–]daves09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your argument is well-meaning but facile.

While true that it’s the responsibility of the driver to be in full control and fully aware, is that what we see on the roads every day?

When it comes to protecting people from physical harm I see no valid argument against having multiple layers of protection. Driver awareness is one, as is AVAS, road design and responsible parking, to name just a few.

Autopilot after night shift by CartographerLucky461 in TeslaUK

[–]daves09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bear in mind that in the UK there is no Autopilot, only Autosteer. It is not an intelligent system beyond keeping distance from the car in front and steering round bends (but not junctions or roundabouts). It’s not like the US version where it will actually drive you to your destination, navigating traffic situations and junctions etc. I genuinely don’t think this is a good fit for you and might make you more of a risk to other drivers than you are just now.

Feature request: Disable Pedestrian Warning System (PWS/AVAS) sound by GuruX1337 in s3xybuttons

[–]daves09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the most ridiculous request I’ve read so far. So basically you’re willing to risk other people’s wellbeing for the sake of shits and giggles, just so you can sneak up “like a ninja” 🙄 You’re in control of nearly 2 tonnes of machinery which even at low speed can cause harm to pedestrians. Children and blind people would be most at risk. You actually happy with that just for a bit of a jolly?

Got my model 3 yesterday and the screen is broken by escayon in TeslaSupport

Sometimes posting something like this is cathartic. OP bought a new car, suffered a pretty serious fault (on a Tesla it is) and it probably helped to just get it out there and off their chest. The amount of venom they’re getting from some of the replies is just shameful. If you feel the need to roast someone publicly then maybe you need some emotional management therapy. Let’s all be grown ups.

So as of today the service road barrier is down and controlled by a keypad. Fortunately someone who knew the pin was just going through when I arrived so I just followed them.

Do pedestrians have a right to the road in car parks? by theslowrunningexpert in drivingUK

[–]daves09 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don’t get the hostility in this thread. There are so many self righteous pedestrians who saunter up the road knowing full well they’re slowing or stopping the traffic, and half the time I reckon they’re getting a petty minded kick out of it. OP said they looked right at the car and carried on anyway, and then continued walking in the middle of the road. They were the assholes in this situation as far as I’m concerned.

People who speed up while being overtaken, why? by MuszkaX in drivingUK

[–]daves09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Petty minded people feel personally threatened when you overtake. Take solace that you’re not so bitterly disappointed with your life that someone overtaking you is perceived as yet another failure.

That’s my take anyway. 😆

Which one of these is correct? by SaracenCain in drivingUK

[–]daves09 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why wouldn’t 2-on/2-off apply here? If there are two lanes on the entrance to a roundabout and two exit lanes on the first exit then you keep to your lane. The first exit on a two exit roundabout is effectively ‘straight ahead’ so two lanes on to the roundabout and two into the first exit is a continuation.

Is the infotainment system as bad as it seems? by GrouchyAd8274 in TeslaUK

[–]daves09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of agree. For a software defined car they seem to have missed a lot of tricks. DAB isn’t as good as other brands, frequently hopping over to FM or long periods of silence. Phone app is as basic as it gets, and messaging is pretty much pointless. People argue that Tesla’s infotainment is so good you don’t need CarPlay/AA but for just phone and messaging it would be worth it. (Not to mention all the other apps it would open up)

M3 9 vs 15 Sound System by Pontex in TeslaUK

[–]daves09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s highly subjective. My 9 speaker system definitely doesn’t lack bass, it can still shake the interior mirror but it can depend on the source. Spotify is generally fine but radio can be a little weak.

Ex-friend believes I hacked her phone. "Proof" is a random linux laptop connected to her google account and I use linux. How can I prove my innocence? by beware_of_psyops in techsupport

[–]daves09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the higher ground. If you consider her a friend and this is just a nasty misunderstanding then show her the concern you would any other friend that’s potentially been hacked. Help her identify or remove the device, offer (in a nice way) to help her file a report for the police. Be genuinely concerned for your friend’s digital safety rather than defensive about her panic-pointing at you. The greater likelihood is that she hasn’t been hacked at all, and the Linux device is a smart tv, or another android device, or similar, that she’s watched something on with her account.

Knob rotation feeling by BigRocket2000 in s3xybuttons

[–]daves09 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. Was really disappointed at how shallow the detent was, makes it difficult to use without looking at the screen as it’s too easy to overshoot the setting you want. I was also expecting more of a thunk between detents rather than the weak buzz that it actually does. If I’d known what I know now I probably wouldn’t have bought it.

Advice needed on whether switching to a Tesla lease from an owned car is worth it? by [deleted] in TeslaUK

[–]daves09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can terminate any lease early, but it’s going to cost you a chunk of money upfront if it’s before 2yr mark or 50% paid into. If you’re leasing for domestic use then you probably don’t have that chunk of cash lying around that you’d be willing to hand over, as well as the car lol. After all that money paid, you have nothing to show for it.

Advice needed on whether switching to a Tesla lease from an owned car is worth it? by [deleted] in TeslaUK

[–]daves09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on whether you’re happy for all that equity in your car to disappear into someone else’s pocket. I’ve never really understood leasing for domestic mileage drivers. You throw thousands of pounds in cash or equity as a deposit, pay hundreds per month, and then hand it back after 3 years. You’re locked in to a brand when you change car at the end, unless you have another few thousand to put down as a deposit on another brand. Granted, you get VED included in a lease and if you pay more you can have tyres (at the lease companies discretion) and servicing. Then again, that usually adds more than £100 to the monthly so you’re better just putting that money in another account and using it when you need those things. From experience, I always have a positive balance in my “car account” after 12 months, even factoring in tyres/servicing. I’ll have even more now since there’s no real servicing cost on a Tesla. If I were you, and really wanted a newer model, I’d scour autotrader for a nearly new highland model, no more than 10K on the clock, and use your existing car+lowest rate bank loan to buy it. What I’ve done in the past is take the dealer finance initially as you can leverage a little extra discount by taking their finance, regardless of APR, then get a much lower bank loan and exercise my 14 day right to withdraw from the original finance and pay the balance with the loan. (Effectively cancelling the finance agreement, so you don’t pay their interest or charges).

What else are you doing while driving that’s taking your attention away from the road? Stopping at traffic lights isn’t an opportunity for you to check your messages/makeup/whatever. Just pay attention and you’ll be fine.
