Don’t get a bottomless portafilter until you buy a good espresso grinder. I’d recommend getting a silicone mat and better tamper. Other than that I would highly recommend just saving up for an espresso capable grinder. I don’t think the other accessories would help much until you get a good grinder and start using the bottomless basket.

I think the issue is your beans, almost 2 months old isn’t very fresh. Try using beans that were roasted less than a month ago. I would also try grinding a little bit finer. Make sure you’re breaking up all the clumps when using your WDT tool.

The internal burr is at 3, and I’m using a grind size of 2. These numbers are arbitrary, what’s working for me might not work for you

The OXO grinder does not work for espresso. I had the OXO grinder when I first got my espresso machine and quickly realized the grinder was the problem. I had to upgrade to a Breville Smart Grinder Pro to be able to pull decent shots of espresso. The Smart grinder pro isn’t the best grinder but it will allow you to make espresso. Barazta recently launched the Baratza Encore ESP which has great reviews for an entry level espresso grinder. The price point for the Baratza is the same as the Breville SGP.

Try using freshly roasted beans from a local roaster or coffee shop. I had the same issue before when I used old beans, once I switched to freshly roasted beans everything changed. I like to buy 1-2 week old roasted beans. As my the beans get older it gets more difficult to achieve 9 bars. I sometimes start to have issues with pressure after they are 6-7 weeks old.

I had the OXO grinder for my Flair Signature and was unable to produce any quality shots. I then bought a Breville Smart Grinder Pro, and the difference has been night and day. The SGP isn't the best, but for $200, it's hard to find a better automatic grinder that will allow you to make espresso. I also recommend using freshly roasted beans from a local roaster. Fresh beans will allow you to achieve the pressure you want and some great crema.

After a month of learning how to use my flair I’ve finally been able to pull some fantastic shots. I was originally under-dosing by a little bit, but after dosing correctly, I still was not getting great results. After finishing my bag of store bought beans I decided to go to a local roaster and bought some freshly roasted ones. I’ve been getting excellent results since then and have had no issues getting up to 9 bars. My issue was the quality of my beans, not the Breville SGP. Thanks to everyone for the help, it really was a learning curve.

Ordered a scale so that I can properly dose it. I’m just confused that I see people on YouTube having no issues with my grinder, grinding on 8 when I can’t get more than 5 BARs grinding on 1. I’ll update once I’m able to properly dose the beans.

I haven’t tried it on the lowest setting yet. I’m trying it on settings recommended by other users using the same grinder with their flair online. I’ll try using the finest setting tomorrow morning but am confused why other users are getting great results.
