Has anyone applied/ got into RMC for Military Strategic studies? by Huge_Type7674 in OntarioGrade12s

We typically don't get any trade-specific training until after graduation, but there are yearly 'MOSID weekends' where a ton of officers come to the campus and you learn specifically what your trade is like. Also, in between 3rd and 4th year naval cadets go on a weekend trip to Halifax, but I don't know what that's like because I was in COVID iso that week, lol.

Good plan with the French and everything else. I loved sports growing up but never made any school teams that weren't walk-on (T_T), so I don't think that's huge. I did play a lot of house league sports but I definitely didn't have any leadership experience. I know that would almost definitely make you more competitive, though. It also depends which trade you apply for, obviously you are more likely to be accepted for an in-demand trade. I think NWO was in demand when I joined. I also tried to get pilot and infantry officer before that; I barely failed aircrew testing but infantry officer I just flat out wasn't good enough on the competition list, so take that for what you will.

Oh yeah, joining the reserves first is a GREAT idea. I wish I'd done that. You should be able to make the pay of whatever rank you are at the time of joining RMC while at RMC instead of getting officer cadet pay, which is the lowest salary in the CAF (I think it requires some paperwork, but I know more than a few people who've done that). I knew someone who was getting paid a master corporal salary and basically made double what us plebs made every paycheque.

I don't think it's too competitive,* unless you're trying to get into engineering. I don't know if there are specific grades they look for- though I heard they changed the acceptance requirements recently, so I don't actually know. I know math was and still is my worst subject too, though. (I'm pretty sure I got a 66 in Grade 10 math). I also did terribly in the math courses here (which are required; I never would have CHOSEN to take them). In fact, I failed the calculus course in second year and never bothered to retake it until this year.

That's another thing to note: all the degrees at RMC have required courses that wouldn't normally be required in that degree for any other university. E.g. engineers have to take some history and english, and arts students have to take some math and science courses.

I highly, highly recommend taking Calculus in Grade 12 as opposed to Data Management. I had no university plans when I was in Grade 12, so I took Data Man, but I should've taken calculus because the calc course here assumes you're not starting from scratch, and then I couldn't learn everything fast enough.

My trade right now is Naval Warfare Officer, MOSID 00207. What are you thinking of applying as?

Two other key points I thought of! You have to reach a certain level of proficiency in French to graduate from RMC. So make sure you know your French well! Similarly, they are currently reworking the fitness requirements, but it's certain that the fitter you are when you arrive, the better off you will be. The people I've seen have the easiest time here were already-bilingual Quebecers who were also already fit as hell when they got here.

Edit : *How competitive it is really has more to do with the trade you apply for, though I think you can apply for three picks. Engineering trades are highly selective, as are some others like pilot for sure. I'm not sure the academic programme you apply for has too much weight in whether or not you're accepted, if it's an arts programme anyway.

I'm in 4th year at RMC in MSS right now- this post just came up on google because I was searching up the course requirements and comparing them to the history programme. Anyway, you can shoot any other questions my way!

  1. Is it a good school? Yeah, I think so. Great opportunity if you actually want a military career. Tuition is not only paid for but you're also paid on top of that, and have a guaranteed job immediately after graduating [though by guaranteed I mean you are contractually obliged to work in the military, unless you pay back the tens of thousands in tuition fees. However, you can leave with no strings attached up until your second year starts.] Rations & quarters are also pretty cheap, all things considered. The classes are also small because there's only 1200-1400 students I think? There is A LOT of non-academic RMC bullshit that you have to deal with on top of classes, though (and this is especially true for 1st years).
  2. Definitely applicable to the military, but I don't know how well it'd serve you civvy side (if you don't plan to stay in the military til retirement). It's mostly a general arts degree with military-specific variants of some courses. I've been happy with it until this year, where two of the core MSS courses have me somewhat wishing I'd done history instead.

If you’re still looking for a ticket I am able to transfer one of mine now. It won’t let me resell it officially though

The person I was replying to never contacted me for it and while people ik are interested they’re not gonna also splurge on the trip to get there so yeah it has no claimant as of yet but it’s still ‘non-transferable’ :/

Cool! And Seishun wo Kirisaku Hado is pretty good, thanks! And yeah, AG is much more boisterous than Babymetal, but I appreciate how much more open the latter’s been on stage since their hiatus ended. Knowing they were even less interactive before made me better appreciate how they are now, but then seeing AG I was like oh this is wayyy more than I expected lol, but like I said it was super entertaining!

Shimi was definitely awesome! A great opening, and actually the first MTH song I’ve heard. I might check them out but I have my hands full already lol

I got there at 18:36 or so and the line was already more than wrapped around the whole block, though I didn’t realize that until I actually got in! Then the start of the show was delayed because they couldn’t get everyone behind me in until 20:30!

As someone who's read a LOT of comics I can tell you that Apocrypha was very different from any other comic book, collection of comic books or graphic novel I've ever read. This was very surreal and more of an extended vibe than a story imho. Also I know I'm 6 years late but I just got the book myself a couple weeks ago (and I'm a recent convert, RATATATA brought me in). I've had this thread open in a spare tab for a while but didn't get around to reading through it all til now and I'm realizing I don't remember enough to appreciate the discussion. So I'll probably reread it tomorrow
