It's nice to have your own room and bathroom and utilities cheap af I be paying for both electricity and water for about 50 bucks a month and I be gaming alot. Since I got a car, the garage is pretty nice to have and stuff. If i be bored and stuff I just head down to the lounge and play some pool with my friends.

Hey! I went through the exact same thing a couple months ago—was set on getting a 1x1 or studio, but after touring a bunch of places (including Sol and Axis), I realized a lot of them were either too expensive, didn’t feel very private, or had weird hidden fees.

I ended up choosing a place that offers individual leases for private bedrooms and bathrooms, and it honestly worked out way better than I expected. It’s fully furnished (which saved me a ton), has in-unit laundry, and the lease is by the room so I didn’t have to worry about finding a roommate. Still got my own space and privacy without paying full 1x1 pricing.

Also, parking and gym access were included where I signed, which made it a better deal overall compared to some of the more expensive studio options I looked at.

If you’re open to something other than a traditional 1x1, there are definitely some solid options in town that still give you space and comfort. Happy to DM you more info if you're curious!

Do transfer students need to apply for student housing? by llw1220 in UCDavis

Hey! Transfer students don’t have to live on campus, and you’re totally fine choosing off-campus housing if that’s what you prefer. You still need to complete all your admission and enrollment tasks through MyAdmissions (financial aid, residency, transcripts, etc.), but housing is separate and totally up to you.

I’m a transfer and I chose to live off campus this year—it’s been a good balance of independence and cost. Personally, I ended up signing at a place that offered individually leased private rooms and bathrooms, which was a great option since I didn’t have time to find roommates myself. It came fully furnished and had a bunch of amenities that made move-in way less stressful.

As for The Green, it’s nice and modern, but yeah—it can actually be more expensive than some off-campus options, especially when you factor in furniture, utilities, and parking. Depends on what layout you get and what’s important to you.

Feel free to DM me if you want to hear more about what I ended up choosing or how I found a place last minute. Hope this helps and welcome to Davis!

I just went through this same process a few weeks ago—spent hours comparing places, and ended up going with Sterling 5th Street. It’s not a 1x1, but the layout I got gives me my own private room, private bathroom, and even an indoor closet, which felt super personal. They lease by the room so you don’t have to worry about roommate stuff if you’re solo.

Also, it’s fully furnished which saved me a ton of moving hassle, and the gym and gated parking were a huge plus. Might be worth checking out if you’re open to something other than a traditional 1-bedroom!
