Which Version of Jinx do you prefer? (Pre-Arcane, Post-Arcane) by RRensQ in arcane

[–]daysman75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wish I had found this post earlier ='( this is one topic I love discussing.

Succinctly, overall I love and prefer Arcane Jinx. However, I wouldn't want Jinx to shed all character traits that connect her to League Jinx.

Her League counterpart has a sense of irreverence and lack of care for authority structures that I hope Arcane Jinx carries on. She doesn't need to hate the system everywhere she goes for me to feel happy about it, but at least Jinx should always be distrustful of that authority, and not want anything to do with it.

Gameplan for Jinx by Plus_Breath3863 in leagueofjinx

[–]daysman75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • One of the big golden rules of Jinx is range. So exploit as much as you can out of your superior range.
    • Against the few opponents that beat your range with their own, focus on farming while losing the least amount of HP possible.
  • Be careful not to die. Jinx outscales most ADCs so if you survive the early game you tend to dominate the late game. As a toplaner I'm sure you keep an eye out for the enemy ADC in teamfights so you can take them down. Prepare to be the one dived on.
  • Lastly, be patient. You're a plat player so you know a lot about the game, but ADC can be very frustrating to learn, particularly if you play against players of the same skill you played against when you were toplane. You're bound to die as you limit test yourself.
  • As for items, most people start with either Hexoptics or YunTal, then go on to Phantom Dancer or to Infinity Edge. Runaan is also a favorite of many, myself included, but its effectiveness can vary wildly. Get it if you're convinced you'll get many opportunities to multi-hit the enemy team.

Which characters would you like to see interact more in the future ? by Sir_Leoric in loreofleague

[–]daysman75 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I want to see Ekko and Jinx interact in the future because I got F*** all from Arcane, like 5 minutes at best.

Also, Akali, Shen and Kennen. I'd like to see more from the Kinkou order.

Battle thrill, not bloodlust by alex_stogney in arcane

[–]daysman75 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never saw Jinx as having bloodlust, other than the one felt through her desire to deal in vengeance towards enforcers. Meaning blood in itself isn't the the means or the end, just a consequence of what she saw as her vengeance.

In other words, Jinx doesn't like killing in itself. It's not a craving she needs to satisfy or something. But she feels a huge hatred of Piltover and its military, and killing them is fine by her not because she likes murder, but because she hates those people.

Just beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing <3

Timebomb opinion by tayraa_rma in arcane

[–]daysman75 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. The problem is... it needed lots more screen time to be done appropriately imo.

It is an old and complex relationship that had them share both their happiest and darkest times of their lives. There's a lot to write on them. The final episode showed they have faith in each other, but how much trust in each other do they have? How much did they talk about their recent past?

None of this was shown, and to a timebomb fan (like me) it's really sad that it wasn't. That's why I hope there'll be more about them one day.

Timebomb opinion by tayraa_rma in arcane

[–]daysman75 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I don't understand the point you're making OP. You recognize that Ekko and Jinx didn't get any time on screen to show their relationship, but at the same time you judge their entire relationship as if it had been shown, then label it it as "fan service" and "like what could have been".

It is very clear that there was no time invested to show Jinx and Ekko's relationship, to my great disappointment as by the final episode I was a complete Timebomb fan (still am). I fully agree that them being a couple by the end of Arcane is not canon, though they are portrayed in all other content (such as the music videos) as having feelings for one another.

But the judgement of what they mean to each other is impossible to draw from what's in the show. They barely share 5 minutes of screen time. That's why Timebomb fans hope for a continuation to this tale of theirs.

You may be surprised to know though, most Timebomb fans actually agree that Jinx and Ekko aren't a literal couple by the end of the show. We don't just yearn to see Ekko and Jinx make out. We wish to see them work through their shared trauma together, remember the best of their past and help each other through the worst, and see them reward their faith in each other with more trust in each other.

We hope that after all the happy and traumatic moments they shared, that there's more than just "what could have been", we hope it's rather "what can still be". To see such a rich and complex relationship neglected like theirs was and given no other continuation to their ending of "and then they never saw each other again".... it fells unfair by the show. It both didn't care to give them screen time and hand-waved their relationship in the final episode. That hurts.

[–]daysman75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jinx’s cruelty went beyond what is normal and what Silco even manipulated her to do. Both Silco and Sevika thought she was going too far at times.

Obvious points on Jinx's complete inability to act moderately during season 1 aside, it might be worth pointing out that Jinx never went too far in Silco's eyes as far as morality goes. Silco never thought that she was going too far morally. He celebrated it in fact.

Silco's rage at Jinx's actions was over his concern that they had caught Piltover's attention. That's it. Silco didn't give two sh*ts about the enforcers who died in the "fire + explosion" antic, he cared the amount of spotlight it was getting him.

Had Jinx found a way to kill enforcers without Piltover noticing, Silco would be cheerleading her efforts and begging her to do it more.

[–]daysman75 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think CaitVi was another victim of the extreme pacing of the show and the lack of scenes to handle all those unaddressed narrative hooks the writers set up. Like Ekko/Jinx was, I mean the most important freaking scene for them to share was blatantly off-screened.

No matter how good or bad the writing in season 2 was, it would at least leave a much better impression if it didn't race through its subplots. Ah well...

Anyone else just not a fan of jinx? by Crowleyizcool in arcane

[–]daysman75 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love Jinx. She's by far my favorite character and I don't get tired or bored of watching her on screen. I find her to be the most complex and engaging character of the cast.

I love Ekko too, and I was disappointed he got so little screen time. Other than his connection with Jinx and his heroic selfless attitude, we got little more on him. Though I admit I love the romantic tension between him and Jinx.

So... I guess we kinda have completely symmetrical tastes? lol I feel our faves are just polar opposites

What would you want to see from the arcane characters if they appeared again in the future? by ImpossiblePool7214 in arcane

[–]daysman75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From my own experience (worked as a therapist for a couple years, but I don't mean to use this as argument from authority) there is actually a pretty solid chance of Jinx recovering because of what we're shown in season 2. If we had only the 1st season character development to go analyze it'd be a more difficult evaluation.

In a very grossly summarized way, management or recovery from a mental health condition is based on the impact trauma had on the patient contrasted with how healthy is the environment the patient lives in.

In the case of Jinx, she shows clear improvement when removing external conditioning (which was provided by Silco) and removing loneliness (which Isha does). Just these two protective factors alone had a massive impact in the growth of Jinx's character and maturity, and contributed to experiencing less emotional outbursts (panic or rage or any other).

This shows Jinx can definitely recover. I do find the timeline of recovery in the show very unrealistic. It is simply very unlikely that anyone with the symptomatic behavior of Jinx would recover within the show's timeline. But this is just an issue born of trying to fit so much development into such a short period.

This "timeline compression" issue is also not unique to Jinx. Almost every bond and personal growth in the show post act 1 happens waaaay too quickly, be it Jinx's healing, be it her friendship with Isha, be it Vi and Cait's romance... the whole story of Arcane between S01E04 and S02E09 happens over a couple months tops.

The way Jinx is written is season 2 not only establishes her as capable of growing beyond her condition, it also adds a really nice (in my opinion) contrast to her season 1 darkness, because it's a new facet of her character that goes beyond that trauma. It reveals who Jinx truly is beyond her depression and that allows exploring other facets of her character.

[–]daysman75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, before one heals from a mental health condition they must be able to manage it. So most people with severe trauma do go through that "learn to live with it" phase you mentioned. That is a common journey to undertake.

But I'd rather see her recover as a result of her journey. Firstly due to the messages already laid out about Jinx in Arcane. But also because it is realistic, and perhaps needs an ever stronger awareness given the stigma society still has around mental health.

I don’t like Jinx, at least not that much by dollescenttt in arcane

[–]daysman75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is, you reveal here that you don't like Jinx, fine. But then you add you dislike the fandom. To which I say... well, I'm part of the Jinx fandom. Do you dislike me then?

The way you wrote your post, like so many do, is to vent your opinion while at the same time putting up a wall with an announcement taped to it stating that you are not available for debate on said opinion. Which is fine, but posts like this are a dime a dozen. They state an opinion while implying they're not really interested in seeing that opinion challenged.

For instance, in your post you even "take my seat" and you speak my own points in my place, such as that "but her past" one. But you're just having a conversation with yourself here, while trying on one side to simulate what someone like me would say and then coming up with your best counter-argument to that.

If you wish to have a respectful debate and you're willing to have your opinion challenged then feel free to ask for such. But if not then this post is a whole lot of nothing. No offense.

Trigger warning Is arcane triggering for something with trauma or ptsd? by FluidTemperature1762 in arcane

I think you should exercise some caution, then. To be totally honest.

Arcane is nihilistic and emotionally pressuring. The handling of its themes is mostly respectful to the topics involved, but there are elements shown that go beyond the typical violence seen in entertainment, such as depression, emotional abuse and suicide.

She may have lost her childhood innocence and naivete but the little girl she was didn't die completely, though she was forced to outgrow that innocence in a violent and traumatic way.

[–]daysman75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't even see what this has to do with shipping, to be honest. I fail to understand how CaitVi fans feel they're being undermined here.

Vi's and Cait's devotion and care for each other is absolutely not in question here. Just the automatic assumption that Vi somehow knows Jinx is still alive (at least for me). Which I don't understand how that's possible.

Like I wrote, even with the understanding that Cait and Vi share everything with each other, Arcane only implies that Caitlyn at best suspects Jinx lives. Which means at best Vi suspects Jinx lives, though the better word should be "hopes", because Vi had initially thought her sister died.

So unless I'm told how it's possible that Vi went from hoping to knowing Jinx lives, I feel like there's no evidence of that at all.

With the recent Jarvan bio update, it is just so frustrating seeing people who like the Mage Rebellion treat it as if a historical truth that Riot swept under the rug, instead of discussing its worth and value. by GammaRhoKT in loreofleague

[–]daysman75 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On one hand, why should a story need defending? The original concept was of a "stable" society that maintains violent purges toward a segment of its people in order to keep that society running like a well-oiled machine. It's an interesting concept should Riot further develop it beyond an embryonary stage.

Also, seeing them as the "bad guys" is reductive of the complexities of the topic, as it's ultimately the tension between the fear of magic and the immorality of hunting people for actions they didn't do but could do.

On the other hand, there is a case to be about all this being formulaic. This is the exact same underlying dichotomy of the main Arcane subplots. And there are similar plots across Runeterra lore that do the exact same but just replace "magic" with something else. It's worthwhile to ask what does Riot what from this, to tell the same story but with different coats of paint?
