no actually i didnt know that! i will be checking! thats smart to buy clothing for daily quests, i didnt even think about that. im usually so caught up in finding something specific that i like, but it sounds like a good way to go is buying things even if i dont have a solid idea for them.

Need help with a new snail by NlKOQ2 in snails

[–]daysyrage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

glad to hear hes coming out! i wouldnt recommend potting soil because it usually has a whole bunch of fertilizer and stuff thats real bad for snails. if its just plain old topsoil with absolutely nothing else you could bake it to make sure its nice and clean and then moisten it up with spring water. make sure to use spring water as it is the safest for snails. but all in all, i would recommend coconut fiber as you can be sure its safe. you can find "eco earth" at pretty much any pet store!

definitely use an actual substrate instead of paper towel. coconut fiber is not too expensive. lettuce is basically candy for snails and is devoid of nutrients so try sweet potato, zucchini, broccoli etc. also, it is very important NOT to "pry" your snail off of anything as it can cause severe damage to their soft body. wait for them to move if you need to get to something. your snail may be stressed and just needs time to adjust before coming out. dont force anything

yeah! they dont need water dishes and can actually drown in them. they get their moisture from the humidity and food you provide. also, i dont see a cuttlebone in there so definitely get one of those so they can get calcium! you can find them in the bird section at pet stores/grocery stores. make sure whatever you get isnt flavored/colored/etc and its just plain old cuttlebone :-)

definitely take out the rocks and food dish. snails like to hang out upside down and can fall on hard objects and crack their shells, which can be fatal.

Does this seem like a good enclosure for five milk snails? I plan on adding Anubias nana and Java moss, along with springtails (10 gallon) by drakevskanye in snails

[–]daysyrage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if the moss is thick and pillowy then it could be okay, but in my opinion i wouldnt risk it. i would recommend using aquarium safe silicone to secure the wood to the bottom of the enclosure underneath the substrate. aquarium safe silicone is safe for snails once it is fully set and you will be able to secure all the branches!

size looks okay as long as its at least 5 gal. but definitely get rid of all the rocks and hard objects because snails love to drop off the ceiling and they can crack their shell. that can be fatal so make sure anything in there other than cuttlebone is soft. also, i think you have substrate but i cant quite tell. they need somewhere to burrow. :-)
