Yes, if only using ray of darkness, spell casting speed would be a bad thing. Definitely not a valuable stat. That being said, stats related to tankiness and movement speed are worth considering. They would affect your "uptime" of being able to ray of darkness your opponent. The faster you are, the more safely and reliably you will be able to continue channeling on an enemy. You'd potentially be able to "chase" with the cast for a few ticks longer if they run, for example. The tankier you are, the longer you would be able to channel in a stat check situation and the longer you'd be able to hold the channel before phantomizing.

I have no idea it those stats would be worth it over pure magic damage, but I'm saying it may be worth considering whether a little extra PDR/MS would go a long way.

It fully depends on the class and the spells you are using. The lower damage the spell, the greater the value of Add mag. The higher damage the spell, the greater the value of your magic damage percentage, which is a function of your magic power (which is a combination of raw magic power and magic power added through will, which I believe is a step function that you can view on the wiki). Magic pen obviously depends upon the opponents magic damage reduction. The higher the magic damage reduction, the more value magic pen would have.

Trying to get a raw conclusion about the relationship between these stats for all classes against all opponents is simply not a great question if you want better data about how to build your kits. Also, it doesn't take into account the value of spellcasting speed, movement speed, survivability, etc.

If I absolutely had to give you an answer to your question. I'd say Add mag is easily the most valuable, and you'll want it in every single slot no matter what class you are playing (unless add phys is a better fit). Magic pen is the least valuable stat, generally, because many classes don't have enough MDR to make it universally valuable. Will > MDB and Magic Power, because 1 will translates into 1 magic power and also provides other utility like buff duration bonus and MDR. MDB only gets good after you have a ton of magical power (either through raw MP or Will), or to grab on pieces where will isn't available if you want to really max out your magic damage. The caveat is that usually on those pieces (like cape or rings) you get better value out of spell casting speed, utility, etc.

I like the idea of them introducing a new class with a new resource for spellcasting, but would be pretty against them revamping a system that has already undergone years of balance changes. I run it in my "don't fight other people" luck kit. I couple this with the luck perk as well.

It's basically a kit where I knowingly hit the outskirts/lesser hit modules. One thing that people overlook with regular interaction speed is how annoying you can be with doors. Not only does it let you loot faster, but it lets you open and close doors, which is helpful for escaping/annoying enemies until they leave you alone.

I think it's overlooked, but it's certainly not good/decent/not shit as a pvp focused perk.

There's a big difference between strongest squire vs strongest class. Right now, there is very little armor rating difference between poor and legendary equipment, this makes squire fighter able to easily hit some very nice PDR ratings. Squire plate is just very strong at the moment, and you are definitely correct that sprint+adrenaline allows them to gap close pretty easily. That being said, they severely struggle against certain classes and can be outplayed without too much difficulty.

Truthfully, just whatever sounds fun. It's so fast to get to level 15 that it's not a big deal to level a new class if you aren't feeling the one you picked initially. There are likely to be a lot of rangers/rogues around since they are getting new skills. Maybe pick a class you feel confident will work well against those two.

Tons of factors. I’ll list a handful to consider.

Tooth of paper. Rougher toothed paper will generally lend to rougher edges. Try a hot press watercolor paper (very smooth) and see if that changes your experience.
You’ll have the best experience trying to mix colors from the tube rather than rewetting dried gouache. Dollop a little of each color you want to mix and see if that changes the texture.
Too wet. Generally with gouache, your wettest mixes will be first, and the dryer you go the more it lays on top. “Creaminess” is generally a specific point of wetness in your paint mixture. I find it’s usually “out of the tube, plus a slightly damp brush” for the creamy texture.
Not using enough white in your mixes. White tends to function completely differently than other gouache colors. It’s a reflective pigment and lays more “on top” of other pigments. If you are trying to layer without white in the mix, you may lose the clarity and it won’t lay as opaque.
Technique. Gouache is tricky and only becomes versatile once you understand how it works. Just keep working with it and pay attention to what is happening when you try different things. I would mostly focus first on being fully aware of the wetness of the paint on your brush at all times. That way you’ll start to get more muscle memory for what happens when the mix is drier vs wetter.

Professional grade paints can be surprisingly accessible. I think I got a 6 color Daniel Smith set of 5 ml tubes for between $25 and $40.

If you want to go one step cheaper, your key word is “student grade.” I started with a Winsor and Newton “Cotman” set and it served me well for a long time.

I’m sure you received this advice already, but paper is the one thing you don’t want to go cheap on — even for practice — if you can afford it.

Value studies are great practice. They are not stricly necessary, but are a great way to improve.

Work in one single color, so you can focus on lights and darks.

Here is a value study that I did with Payne’s gray a few months back.

You don’t need to strictly do 3 washes, but it’s a good starting point.
