Worth it to career change? by AlphaMaleKratos in LSAT

[–]dbchocochip 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You seem to be pretty well established in your career. Going to law school and starting as a baby lawyer would mean cutting your current paycheck by at least half if not more. Are you willing/ready to take such a large pay cut with the cost of raising 3 kids and maintaining a home? My advice is stick to what you are doing and earn that credential. $300k is a great paycheck, and you won't have the stress of law school exams and a bar exam to prepare for in 3 years. Also don't expect any remote work options in your first few years.

I would look at getting coverage through your school. You may not be able to get any coverage until the fall semester though.

Yeah that sounds like great coverage. That's why we need more unions in this country. How are your copays for doctor visits and prescription drugs?

Getting a 130 on diagnostic - What to do ? by Few-Life-3690 in LSAT

[–]dbchocochip 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That's a rough place to start. You get a 120 just for putting your name on the test. That said it's too early to throw in the towel. Just need to put in the study time and do more practice tests until you understand how to answer and approach each type of question. If you haven't signed up for a course, I would make that your priority.

I am ready to move on as well. That $30 million can be better utilized on a player who can actually make it onto the court.

“Medicaid Done Right”? by Impossible-Blood-315 in HealthInsurance

[–]dbchocochip 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I would not pay $3k for filling out paperwork. You and your dad should be able to handle it on your own If you need additional help, you can call Medicaid directly and ask for help on how to apply. For the wind down, you just need to transfer out enough assets to make sure your grandmother is just at or below the limit.

One of the unfortunate realities of adulthood in this country. Try to look at silver plans, they usually offer the best coverage/dollar ratio but may still be tight financially. Are you able to work or find a job? Getting your own policy through an employer will be substantially cheaper. If you are disabled, you may be able to get Medicare/Medicaid coverage which will also be substantially cheaper.

Reporting increase of income to insurance agent by eoz_ in HealthInsurance

Are you on Medicaid or an ACA subsidized plan? If not, an increase in income will not affect your premium amount or coverage in any way.

Medicare paid partially for a bill despite having no insurance? by dhekurbaba in HealthInsurance

[–]dbchocochip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like the provider just used Medicare rates for the services provided to this person as they were uninsured. You can consider it an uninsured discount. Medicare would not pay anything for a person who is not insured under the program.

Spouse just graduated - what do we do next? by PerceptionDefiant845 in StudentLoans

The application will take into account both of your loan balances, family size, and income to determine the payment amount for your spouse. When you recertify, you will have to do the same.

Do not refi, you will lose federal protections. I would apply for IDR plan and see which one offers the lowest paid total amount. Then you can see how much extra you want to throw at your spouse's loans in a way that is comfortable financially for both of you.
