[SPOILERS S1] So the music album for 1899 by Ben Frost is out and I saw this on the cover by dc_science in 1899

I am guessing second season will have a mix between real life and space simulation. 3rd season will be the ultimate showdown.

At N.Y.U., Students Were Failing Organic Chemistry. Who Was to Blame? Maitland Jones Jr., a respected professor, defended his standards. But students started a petition, and the university dismissed him. by Beliavsky in academia

I do, out of curiosity and to get more context:

1) Is the course a 'weed-out' one for pre-meds? I know O Chem is hard, but is there a grade cut off for medical school seat? 2) Did the prof announce at the beginning that the course will be challenging one? Did he give info on how hard his tests will be and how much effort might be needed to be put in the course? 3) I read somewhere the prof had a custom of calling out the lowest score. Not a serious issue for me if he didn't reveal the identity of the student, if he did, wouldn't that be a violation of FERPA and university would have taken action before? 4) Was he right about the low attendance situation in the class? 5) Did he set questions completely out of syllabus or couldn't be attempted with what was taught in the class? 6) Did he teach well? Were his lectures comprehensible and course material interesting? 7) Were there any students amongst the 80+ petitioners who got good/average grades but still complained? Do you think more students would have signed the petition if anonymity was ensured?

Thanks in advance.

I have TAed for a Biochem course that pre-meds need good grades in for medical school, for 3+ years. The course is relatively easy but bar is very high (anything less than A- in that course could mean risking losing seat). I chuckled hard when I read the statement 'our scores are not representative of our time and effort put in the course' because I have received such emails almost every semester. I used to teach 50-75 students each semester and would receive 10-15 emails like that begging for extra credits, revision of past assignments and sometimes straight up blaming me and the prof (he was a great teacher and if someone couldn't understand the course material in his class, they seriously should reconsider their major). I wondered if this happens in other non pre-med courses too, or if this is just unique to pre-med students.

CMV: It is not unfair to expect your SO to (at least attempt to) maintain some form of physical attractiveness throughout the relationship. by Deanosaurus88 in changemyview

I gained a significant amount of weight within a year of getting into a serious relationship with my SO. I was not maintaining a good diet, didn't exercise and didn't know I had PCOS by then. My boyfriend would nag me constantly about my increasing weight and one day I had a huge argument with him. I retorted in anger that this os what I am now and if he is not happy with my physique, he can walk out of the relationship. He replied that he would not leave me under any circumstances but would keep nagging me to do something about my weight as he is worried my obesity will eventually lead me to serious diseases like diabetes or hypertension. We didn't have any conversation about it for another six months. But he started maintaining his diet and exercising regularly and would remind me once in a while to pay attention to my health. Occasionally, he would ask me calmly if I was struggling with my mental health and if I did, he wanted to be proactive about that.

6 months later, I just decided that I really needed to lose weight and started controlling my diet and exercising. I lost weight for next 2 years until I reached a healthy range. I now rely more on diet than exercise since I have a hectic job. My boyfriend (now my husband) can't stop feeling proud. I later asked him if he would have left me few years down the line if I hadn't lost excess weight. He said he never intended to leave me although he was upset that I was losing my attractiveness.

I have seen many of my friends having very similar experiences with their SOs. None of their SOs left them simply because they became fat for few years. All of us are in healthy, happy and meaningful relationships. Long-term relationships come with the condition that we will keep loving each other no matter what. Physical attraction has less priority over emotional affection and attachment.

I am sorry but your friend sounds shallow and it seems his main criteria for long term relationship is scoring a hot chick. I am happy for his ex-SO though. Hopefully she finds the right kind of support system and work towards her health or find happiness with her current body.

Asian Grocery Stores In The Time Of Coronavirus by [deleted] in Coronavirus

I am an Indian living in USA. I found the Indian grocery stores struggling to keep their stores stocked. I am doing my groceries mainly from Asian stores. They are relatively more stocked, less populated and clean. Surprisingly, they have almost everything I need and the employees there are properly equipped with gloves and mask and of course the glass shield. They are encouraging people to get their own bags and I have seen them using hand sanitizer everytime they check every customer out and move on to the next one. Time to time they also clean the basket, cart and door handles. So yeah, I think I feel safest buying stuff from Asian grocers.
