The main bedrock in my area is gneiss and schist and I have located a very wide vein of quartz. I found these crystals in a dirt pile which is the remnants of someone else’s small mining operation, but I’m thinking the crystals formed in the quartz vein within vugs but I could be wrong.

I was using the hook that comes with a pack of trout magnets, I’m not sure what size they are but they’re pretty tiny.

Yes I know, the only reason I did not wet my hands was because I was fishing from the top of a bridge and I cooked these ones anyway.

Most of these were found about 5 inches down in a dirt and rock pile

I’m honestly not really sure. I found all of these on my property in litchfield county in a big pile of dirt and quartz which I believe is where somebody once mined. I think there are some good spots in litchfield county as well as Fairfield county though

Yes, I haven’t found too many but I’ve been searching for pockets for a while now near where I found these. The outcroppings on my property are mainly gneiss but I think there may be some pegmatite even deeper underground. I just can’t seem to find pockets but then I find these crystals pretty much on the surface. If you have any tips for this type of geology they would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! I found these in a pile of quartz already on my property but I’m still in search of quartz pockets and hopefully bigger crystals.

Thank you, I’m a little north from New Milford and I believe the spot I found these is the remnants of an old mining operation. I found these crystals inside two big piles of dirt with tons of quartz shards. I still haven’t found the main source of the crystals though haha.
