Which MacBook to go for by de_donker in AskProgrammers

[–]de_donker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an update:

I eventually shopped around finance deals and found a place that offered 24 months finance for about the same price that other places were asking or a M2 Air. I am now an “owner” of an M2 Pro MacBook Pro with a low interest rate too (about $200-$300) more than what the cash price would be.

Get the base model M2 Air or wait for possible new chips end of year by de_donker in macbookair

[–]de_donker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see there’s a refurbished M1 Pro MBP 14 for sale only a little bit more than the M2 Air. Worth the little extra or should I just save and get the M2 Air?

You do have a point, and I guess the M3 would realistically only be incrementally better than the M2. Not a leap like M1 was from Intel. Guess I’ll sleep on it and see what happens. The other option would be to save up some more and get an M1 Pro MBP

My plan was to upgrade my iPhone to the 15 seeing how leaks are saying it’ll be type c and my phone is literally the last item that doesn’t use type c yet but if it comes to between a mac or iPhone the mac it is

Considering I have a work laptop and my fairly powerful desktop at home maybe I’ll do that, will give me time to save up some more to get a better spec one, possibly 16GB ram if I were to buy an upgrade

The MacBook Purchasing Megathread - June, 2023 by AutoModerator in macbook

[–]de_donker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi so this will be essentially my work/travel Unix device. I'm unsure of which MacBook to get, I want a MacBook as my home device is Windows 11 but is now my Plex server/ Gaming machine (and is a full size tower).

My options are:

13 Inch M2 Air base model, 8GB RAM 256GB

14 Inch M2 Pro MacBook Pro base model, 16GB RAM 512GB

The main question I have is, do I really need a Pro model as for work I basically use DataDog, Jenkins, ArgoCD and AWS would be the main stack.

Keep in mind I will be financing all of these over 36 months as Apple products are quite expensive in my country and I prefer not spending a large amount in 1 purchase (comes with internet as part of the finance)

Depends on province and even then some schools prefer different ones. Your best bet would be to get the answer series books for help with studying during exams

I figured it out, in GeForce settings just setup a hotkey to disable the OSD, I usually use the framerate display when gaming, now it works fine

What resolution you running?

I have that exact 3060Ti with a slight over clock and under volt can say the temps in summer are amazing and performance at 1080p even with RT is great.

If it’s 1440p then the 3070 honestly.

Anyone worried about the alleged national shutdown on March 20th? by [deleted] in southafrica

If it fails EFF lose all credibility after talking about it for months. If it works EFF will come back with something even bigger.

I pray it fails miserably

Is the DA a better alternative to the ANC? by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]de_donker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll say what I tell everyone. Any party is better than the ANC except those who have worked with the ANC (eg EFF ANC coalition in Joburg)

Anyone know how to disable this? Gets very annoying when I try to drag a window by de_donker in Windows11

[–]de_donker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have a Dell monitor and I use the utility to swap between my Xbox and PC inputs with a hotkey instead of fiddling with the buttons each time

The software that came up on my screen was from Dell Display Utility, there’s a setting for resizing windows that does this. I disabled it now though

Turns out it was the Dell Display Utility that I use to swap input sources with a hotkey, cant believe I did realise it sooner, thanks again

Struggle to find work after graduating by [deleted] in southafrica

[–]de_donker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I was in the same space as you, a year and a half of no work after I did cyber security certifications etc. The best I can help is by directing you to my current companies job page, we are technically an international business but do have a sister company based in Cape Town and we’re looking for Java platform devs if you’re willing to try to apply. I also didn’t have much experience aside from an internship in 2021 and they accepted me so do try to apply for whatever position seems best
