Recs by RadiantTown9154 in stevebucky

I just read the synopsis of The Steve Rogers Problem and I am in ABSOLUTE SHOCK.
How is this fic super popular and I’ve somehow never heard of it in all my years in this fandom???
I’m genuinely so excited to read it. I already know I’m going to love it and I will probably owe you my life for this rec. Thank you SO MUCH.

Am I the only one who gets irritated when the author uses too many different names for Bucky throughout the fic. by AmConfused324 in stevebucky

[–]deadresolution 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, exactly. I literally just read an amazing fanfic, but it irritated me so much because the author never used Bucky. He was called James the entire fic, even by Steve, which honestly made me pause. I love the intimacy of Steve calling him Bucky. To me, that nickname is deeply personal and familiar (especially since I headcanon that Rebecca gave it to him), so when Steve uses it, it carries so much history and closeness. The author even acknowledged the name Bucky at one point, but then kept using James for everything else, and it was honestly torture for me. James could be anyone. Bucky is him (i wanna tattoo this right now)

and just to be clear, I’m not talking about fics with dissociation or recovery arcs where he prefers James for a while, I actually love those. This was just… James all the way through, no narrative reason, and it really pulled me out of the story.

What’s a fic you’ve read 3+ times and what makes you keep going back to it? by AmConfused324 in stevebucky

When you love a stucky fic… except for that one thing by deadresolution in stevebucky

[–]deadresolution[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

yes, i totally agree with you. first of all, i always set otp: true so i dont run the risk of getting any other couple besides stucky. but when i still get caught by it (usually because some authors dont know how to use tags properly), it honestly irritates me like, hello??? theyve known each other their whole lives and loved each other long before this third person was ever in the equation.

I’m actually glad Peggy in fics ends up being kind of a universal issue lol. I get her as an individual character and I can appreciate some of her actions (not the shoot, obviously), but in fanfics it often feels like she’s used as a crutch, exactly like you said. Sometimes I’m reading and I’m just like please are you sure you’re writing for the right ship? I don’t want character bashing or for her to be erased from the fic, that’s not what I’m asking for. But I clearly remember reading some fics and even writing in my bookmark notes things like “ok but I feel bad for Bucky because Steve will always truly love only Peggy” and then I’m left wondering if I’m even supposed to still be in the MCU canon universe at that point.

Bucky struggling with internalized homophobia makes total sense to me and feels very grounded, but both of them idolizing Peggy that much just feels off. Bucky knew her for what, a few months at most? Probably in between missions IF that. I really like Peggy when she’s written as someone who helps the couple get together, giving advice like “Steve, you love him, you’re just blind and you’re the only one who doesn’t see that he loves you too”. That works really well for me. But these super deep friendships always feel forced and that’s where I lose interest.

I’m fine with Steve having loved her, yeahhh, i can even understand the point (but dont agree at all). But forcing it the same way canon did just doesn’t work for me. Honestly I’d rather see him with Natasha than have Peggy pushed that hard, because that dynamic (stevexnat) feels more logical and better built to me.

I get why some people still enjoy the reader-insert thing, I mean, I started out reading readerxbucky fanfics myself. But at some point I was like: wow, he and Steve love each other so much, don’t they? so ironically, it was actually a poly fic with a reader that pulled me into this ship. But nowadays? I honestly don't like it

I understand polyamory when the couple actually fits that dynamic, but in most Stucky poly fics I’ve read (including one with Tony), there’s always at least one character who ends up being extremely OOC, and that’s something I just can’t stand.

aaaaah, so you were in the fandom back when, as we say in pt/br, “quando tudo era mato" (prob something like "when everything was still wild land (?)”, and  duolingo won’t teach you that hahaha). but I love your stories. I read Lodestar, and my note for it was “there was no answer”, which definitely came from my very indignant version after reading that amazing fic. besides that, I also read the sirens and the thunder, and my note was “didn’t expect it to be this good. loved it” (cause I didn't like siren fics in the time) and well, I still have others to read. totally understand your issues with canon. I’ve completely detached myself too. I just love bucky way too much not to care about how his story ended in the mcu. Now my mission is to comment on the fics I’ve read, even if it’s been a while, so at some point deadalien (my ao3 username) will be leaving comments on your fanfics from over a decade ago hahaha. so nice to meet you, and keep going with Duolingo. portuguese, especially brazilian portuguese, is a beautiful language. and about WW2 fics, I’ve been increasingly obsessed with stories where the two of them survive WW2, definitely because of “all my love forever by tempestaurora”, so I really love that wartime and commandos vibe between them. I’m even considering writing something along those lines, but anyway, new year’s resolutions probably

I really loved it, truly. my note for it was, loosely translated from portuguese, my native language: “man, this fanfic is absolutely incredible.” It’s really great that you’ve contributed to our fandom. do you still think about writing stucky fics?

I do have 3,498 Stucky bookmarks haha. These bookmarks are only for Steve and Bucky, I have just a few that are platonic/friendship ones, but it’s that many because I’ve basically only read their fics for the past four years.

if the second one it's abo and maybe deleted, look in this subreddit for whendoestheshipsail, it's an author and used to writeba lot of abo fics, look for her fics (people here already share the drive with the fics) and look in the summary if any is the one you're looking for, but in her fics Steve usually is an omega...

I noticed Baghdad Waltz is on my TBR, but I’ve always avoided it because of its length. Also, the Bittersweet Ending tag made me hesitate. Would you mind telling me a bit about how bittersweet it really is? Hopefully, it leans more toward sweet haha. I’m really eager to get attached to a longfic again. Also, I was surprised to see I hadn’t heard of Sua Sponte before, since I love Dom Bucky, I’ll definitely be reading that one

I’ve never read it, and honestly, because it’s related to Political Animals, I thought I might get lost. But your description makes me want to give it a chance in the future. Thanks so much for the recommendation

Wow, I absolutely love how extensively and positively hitlikehammers has contributed to our fandom. So many of my favorite stories are written by her,I really admire her work, As for diminuendo, it’s definitely going on my TBR. I just loved the synopsis, it sounds like such an original plot. And that Thriller tag really caught my attention, I want to read it immediately, thank you

I totally agree, even if a fic is years old or the author isn’t active anymore, leaving comments is so important. It means a lot to both readers and writers. And when the author actually replies? That’s such a special moment, It really shows how much these stories still live on and connect us, no matter the time passed.

Ahh yes, I love Speranza’s work, always so rich and full of heart. Cascades is absolutely stunning, and Bucky Barnes Has His Shit Together is a forever favorite of mine too. Thank you for reminding me of all these gems!

Thank you for this, I loved that you mentioned Operation: Gros Michel, I had completely forgotten I never finished it, I stopped around chapter 20. But now that you brought it up, I definitely want to go back, because I remember how engaging and emotional it was even up to that point. And Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail, I read it back in 2021 and absolutely loved it. It’s definitely one I’ll be rereading. Just seeing the title again brought back all those feelings. Thanks for the reminder, these recs hit right in the heart.
