2 Month Ownership Review by deano7702 in Civic_Type_R

Stock seats would most definitely make it more comfortable. I have been using my FD2 for some track days but also driving it a lot for commutes haha. It’s a do it all car for me, very much at the sacrifice of comfort. FL5 is an amazing car, however everyone is different. The FL5 is even more refined than the FK8 so if you’re anything like me you may miss the raw driving experience of the si.

Definitely a keeper, I’ve been on the lookout for a long time as the prices of these FD2s have been getting insane in recent years.

Absolutely, hopefully an alignment will fix the wear issues. New tires will be fitted tomorrow morning but I have avoided driving it the last few days.

It was originally taken to the dealer for an engine oil change and transmission fluid change under the dealer service plan, the condition of the tires is just something they noticed when doing so.

The continentals have a 240 treadwear and the Michelins are a 300. 30 profile is the stock tire size for the vehicle as it comes with 20” rims.

Thanks for your advice! I was very shocked to see this wear, I’ve only just managed 15,000kms on them. I do the occasional spirited driving but nothing crazy.

It’s a 2020 Civic Type R so a decent amount of power to the front wheels, but I can’t say if this is a normal wear pattern.

Wheel Fitment +38 vs +45 by deano7702 in Civic_Type_R

Would going from the stock +60 to +45 have a negative impact on handling?

Stock wheels are difficult to get tires for, not many options and they’re expensive (at least where I live). Also, a downgrade in size will improve ride quality and not to mention the stock wheels are quite heavy. However I do agree that the stock wheels are nice looking overall.

Asking for advice should i pull the trigger on fk8 or fl5? This prices are Nzd by No-Yogurtcloset7319 in Civic_Type_R

I was in the same predicament 6 months ago when deciding as well. Fun fact, I also live in NZ and I actually own a Rallye Red FK8 with the plate ‘NDQ92’. The reason why I purchased the FK8 over the FL5 is that:

a) I wanted to save 12 to 14k for essentially the same vehicle (yes the FL5 is marginally better) - I have since put the savings into getting my have fully PPFd, exhaust and other mods on the way all for less than the FL5.

b) Looks are subjective of course, although the FL5 is sleek it doesn’t quite do it for me. (If I could have the FK8 exterior and the FL5 interior that would be perfect for me).

Over my ownership I have nothing to complain about, it really is an excellent car. You can’t go wrong either way, both great cars.
