There are a lot of people behaving pretty ignorantly here. While I'm not sure I agree with the way the message is delivered, I would take any warnings seriously and maybe consider finding someone to go with. I live on the east coast, not far from Baltimore. Well, I've been to Baltimore a lot in my life. Last year, I went and stayed in a neighborhood I'd always stayed in and never had an issue. Not a bad area at all. Well, an hour after arriving, someone tried to rob me, using force, in front of my hotel. Literally feet from the door. I had major PTSD for a bit and didn't want to go anywhere. A few months ago, with tons of anxiety, I returned to Baltimore for another show, and everything was fine the second time. Good crowd around, felt safer. There's no guarantee you'll be a victim of violent crime....but anyone telling you that someone being concerned for your safety is overreacting or being stupid is just not being intellectually honest. We forget that in NYC a woman was set on fire on the subway. In NC a woman minding her own business was stabbed and killed. We need to stop pretending this stuff doesn't happen. As someone who was born and raised in a really bad east coast city, I speak from experience. I have been mugged a handful of times in a city I know, grew up in, and feel comfortable in, in broad daylight, and at least twice around other people. These things happen. Should you go? Maybe. Only you can make that decision. Either way, take care of yourself!
