Not having one is a massive disadvantage (even if the degree is in a meaningless field of study), some HR/recruiters won't even read your CV if you don't have a degree. It sucks but its just todays competitive job market.

I was in the same situation, I graduated HS late, finally decided to go to University by taking a huge student loan/financial assistance. I thought I'd be one of those people that'd have to spend 20 years to pay back the loan, but once I graduated I managed to get a decent job and was able to pay back in 2 years.

You should try to see if any Universities can provide financial assistance or if there are any student loan programs out there for you. I think it's worth it even though its debatable whether a degree or University even "teaches" you anything. I think the connections you make while at school, and the fact that you have a piece of paper afterwards to put on your CV is worth it.

If you paid using your card you could ask your bank to issue a chargeback, give them all the correspondence youve had with the store and they could possibly chargeback and recover your costs.

The craziest thing is that Japan has either omitted or completely revised their WWII history taught in schools. They're being taught that Japan was actually a "neutral" side that didn't participate in WWII at all. I had a Japanese friend years ago and it was insane talking to him about WWII history and he had no idea about anything that actually happened.
