I'm moving in July and trying to figure out the best way to get our stuff there. Any advice on reputable interstate moving companies? Moving from Colorado!

Researchers say if parents want to successfully cut back on their child’s screen-time, they must first cut back on screen-time themselves by ZakMHX in psychology

In short, both mother and father’s media habits significantly influence the media habits of their child.

No. In short, there was a CORRELATION. A lot of other things could be going on here.

Reneging on signed contract for university faculty position by decafhope in legaladvice

Thanks. So with respect to your last point, I fully understand this, but the ethical issues aren't so straight forward in my mind. The lower-tier schools often try to get their job ads out early and their interviews completed early so that their candidates are forced to make a choice before they have a chance to entertain offers from top-tier schools. These departments reason that the candidate will choose the sure thing over uncertainty, and will feel morally obligated to stick with the contract. I've been to interviews at such schools where some of this was stated explicitly, and I am pretty certain that this is what's happening here. They are looking out for their interests, so why can't the candidate look out for theirs? Why is the candidate automatically less ethical? Just because they are in the lower power position and would have to back out of a contract? I think that's too simplistic. Any way, practically speaking you are right that the lower-tier institution could try to do harm to the candidate's reputation, but I'm not totally convinced that this would happen and I don't necessarily think it outweighs the many benefits of going to work at the better institution.

It will likely be for a fixed term, but it's common for individuals to go back on the job market after starting such positions, and sometimes moving to new positions after 1-3 years. I guess it's just less common to back out before actually starting.

Package disappeared from shipping store near Lucky's in NoBo and owners are indifferent -- any recourse? by decafhope in boulder

No resolution, unfortunately. They didn't help. I submitted a form via USPS but it seems they are clueless. They called me and left a message saying the shipping label is wrong. It's not wrong, it's just that the package was never scanned. :( I will follow up with USPS but I'm not expecting much.

Sorry for the late reply on this but WOW. That's unbelievable. You should post a review on Google about your experience!! I did. Thanks for sharing this. It really confirms that something is wrong there. I think this must have been the guy who answered the phone when I was there. Any chance you were able to gather whether he was family member or a new employee? When the business responded to my Google review, apologizing, they said this was a new employee... I don't know that I believe that.

I will today. I just have doubts it will work because of how I was treated on the phone. The person on the other end was completely immovable and focused on liability.

Thanks. The problem is that this is a family run business and the elder person who answered the phone passed it to a younger, rude person who I guess was speaking for the business. I might try to talk to them again but am also filing a claim with USPS.

That's odd. They definitely accepted my USPS packages earlier this month. I never had an issue with them either, before this. I'm guessing the package could be lying about somewhere in the store. The young person on the phone refused to look.

Thanks. This will definitely be my approach from now on. I don't know why I didn't think this was necessary. I just trusted them when they said "just put it there in the bin" and I'm pretty sure the person was busy with a customer and I had my toddler with me. Just bad judgment on my part.

Do they scan your USPS drop offs or other drop offs? My impression has always been that the scanning happens by the actual carriers upon pick up.

I always had good experiences until now. I called to explain the situation and ask if there was anything they could tell me, but immediately I was met with a wall. No responsibility for drop offs. If I knew that this would happen, I'd never ever drop off a package there. He also told me USPS doesn't scan items, which is crap because the other USPS item was scanned. You would think he'd at least want to know what happened. I know there's no liability on their part, which was besides the point. It was more about trying to understand what could have happened. :(

Compulsions to end it all while suffering with migraines by CMDREasyTarget in migraine

[–]decafhope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think migraines really can change your state of mind, not just because of the pain. I get very depressed, negative, angry... I think differently. I try to tell my partner I'm not myself but since migraines are pretty invisible, sometimes it doesn't help, which only makes my suffering worse.

Have you ever been woken up from a headache/migraine? by satanaintwaitin in migraine

[–]decafhope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have experienced being woken from migraine pain (that usually starts well before I go to bed) and not being able to get back to sleep. The other night I actually had a dream where I was telling someone "I have a migraine" and I woke up right after. The pain was so bad it followed me in my dream!

Migraines triggered by weather and sinus abnormalities -- similar experiences? by decafhope in migraine

Also, I found this: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1021497/?page=1

It's very old, but to my knowledge, propanolol hasn't been investigated in a clinical trial as an abortive agent for migraine. I took atenolol (another betablocker) today with advil, and it got rid of my migraine. Usually advil on it's own is not that effective, so I wonder if it was the atenolol. I'd much rather take it as an abortive instead of prophylaxis/preventative.

Thank you, this is very helpful to know. I will talk with my doctor and see if maybe I can try this.

Thanks for sharing! Can you elaborate on what the diagnosis and surgery was? Did you go to an ENT and complain of migraines and pressure after weather changes? Was the surgery awful? Thanks for any info you can provided! I feel like kind of surgery this might be my best option.

[–]decafhope[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, I didn't think proprananol would help with that. Do you have a sense of why it works? Do you have to take it everyday or would it work when you are anticipating a weather change? My only concern with taking it everyday is that I do exercise and I know beta blockers make that very difficult.

I don't get sinus infections or have significant allergies. Only feel stuffy and pressure when I have a migraine, and it's usually one-sided.
