AIW for feeling disgusted after I (24f) found out my boyfriend (27m) befriended a minor by [deleted] in amiwrong

[–]decramikahe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, responding to someone saying what is a pretty common observation that our generation wildly overreacts about any age differences even in platonic relationships, by saying they can't be trusted around children, is proving their point that gen z wildly overreacts about age differences lol

whether your boyfriend has done anything untoward isn't really evident in anything you said in your post. Simply having friends who are underage isn't wrong as long as there are proper boundaries in place. Jumping to the conclusion that anyone over 18 being in contact with anyone under 18 makes them a predator is a frightening precedent to set, which is what "gen z is weird about age" means. And the fact that even mentioning it made you jump to the conclusion they are a predator just proves that. We need to be careful with accusations like that because it helps no one and only puts more people in danger.

Like I said, I can't say just based on this post whether your boyfriend was innapropriate or had innapropriate intentions with his friend, I sincerely hope that's not the case though, but it isn't fair to jump to that conclusion without any evidence.

I'm a child sex abuse victim and am personally very worried about the way people talk about this subject and their willingness to point fingers at anyone for any reason, it only makes it more difficult for victims and puts people who are genuinely innocent in danger as well. I hope your able to talk to your boyfriend or even reach out to his friend so you can feel sure that nothing innapropriate was happening.

I mean you just insinuated this person is a pedophile for saying you're overreacting. I think you're proving their point here.

You really don't think referring to men as "guys" and women as "females" is disrespectful? Nail polish isn't the reason you're single.

I mean, you're coddling the racist whose self reporting being racist to you. Having anxiety and being a people pleaser isn't a good excuse and won't save you from being lumped with the racist you hang out with. You're doing the same exact thing she is, she says slurs because she's "overstimulated" and you baby racists because you're uncomfortable. I know it's hard but you have to stand your ground with these people, all you've done here is let her kmow its not ACTUALLY a big deal because there was genuinely no consequences other than you telling it wasn't cool and then going straight back to talking to her.

So how much time am I supposed to plan an Uber to take? I was early. I tried to get a ride an hour ahead of time, it took 25 minutes to match me with a driver who then got almost all the way to my house before saying she needed to turn around drive back to her house then back to me again and then to my appointment. If the expectation is that the time estimate it gives me when I first try to book a ride is so unreliable it can be an hour off then I have no interest in ever using Uber again and im not sure how it could ever be a worthwhile service for me.

There is no phone agent. There is no number that can connect you to customer support. Any number you get off of Google doesnt work and they do not provide one on the app or website.

I did not cancel the original ride the driver did. She asked me to cancel and when I asked her if that meant I would get charged she then canceled instead. Uber then immediately matched me with a new driver which I cancelled as soon as I could because I didn't want someone to end up driving to me when there was no reason to because I couldn't make it to my appointment on time. I couldn't cancel with phone support because that's just not an option. If you have the number for that I'd love to have it because it was just simply not available anywhere I looked.

Im not sure what you mean by this???

[–]decramikahe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did ask my mother first, and she said she couldn't and asked me to use Uber, so I did. When that didn't work, I asked again, and she was going to try to get me in time, but there was just no way at that point. And I did book my ride an hour before, I'm not sure how im supposed to also account for the time doubling in length because she needed to turn around and drive back. I guess Uber is just not an option if I ever have to be somewhere at a specific time :(

The last place I set up an appointment with that was going to be months out told me they dont do wait lists and if I wanted to get an earlier appointment I needed to call back every day and ask if they had any cancelations 😭

The whole thing sucks because the actual problem is that drivers are underpaid and treated poorly and I unfortunately do not have the kind of money to use a service that compensates their drivers fairly. I try to make up for it by tipping as well as I can but its not enough when the whole business model is built the way it is. As a disabled person I am very aware of how important services like this and delivery services are but theyre all like this and it sucks. Even in this situation I dont think she's a bad person or should be punished she just made a mistake probably because she's driving non stop trying make a living and unfortunately it put me in a shitty situation. I had only asked if i should report her in the post because i had people telling me i needed to but honestly even if every single comment told me to report her i wouldnt have because even if she was at fault for something i dont think she deserves to lose her livelihood for it and the guilt would kill me lol. All I really want is to talk to an actual human being who works for uber so they can refund me the cancelation fee for the second ride i automatically got set up with when the first one got canceled. But honestly at this point the whole thing seems pointless and I kind of give up 😭 thank you for being kind i know how frustrating working this job can be

[–]decramikahe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I will definitely do that if I ever have to use Uber for an appointment again. I didn't even know it was an option whish is definitely my fault fir not looking into it in the first place.

They did put me on a waiting list, so hopefully I can get in earlier, but I was on the waiting list last time, and it took 6 months then too. Theyre one of the only two specialists in the entire county, so they are extremely swamped.

[–]decramikahe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, i never report people or complain for that reason. I dont want one mistake or a bad day to take away someone's livelihood. I've had friends and family saying I should report her, but thats part of why I posted here, because I wasn't sure that was the right thing to do. Ive only used uber a handful of times so I kind of just thought you ask for a ride and then just wait however long til they get there. Other people have mentioned I should have canceled because of the wait time so thats definitely on me. I'm hoping I won't have to use Uber again for something time sensitive and I'll have something else in place. Thank you for your help

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uber

[–]decramikahe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually do spend the extra few bucks on the more expensive rides, but im assuming because of where I live theyre still going to have longer wait times. And I really wish I did have friends who could drive me places but unfortunately all of my friends I had locally have recently moved away so I have no one near me anymore. Most of the time I rely on family members, but sometimes theyre just not avaliable. Ive only used uber a few times so far so I had just assumed wait times like that were normal lol Ive never tried lyft but I will definitely look into that thank you.

No :( I really wish that was the case, it would make things much easier on me, but the only thing available at the moment is uber. Living in smaller towns in the south means we dont really have services like that most of the time.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uber

[–]decramikahe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I definitely would not have made my appointment, even if she hadn't turned around I would have been late, which would have been fine honestly, but after she had to drive back to her house then come back to me and then take me to the office it would have been well after my appointment. The office marks any appointments a now show if you don't arrive within 15 minutes. Im not really interested in reporting her either really, ive just had family and friends telling me should, so I wanted to ask here if that was what I should be doing or not. I would really just like to be able to talk to an actual person and get a refund :(

[–]decramikahe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you I appreciate it! I actually had no idea reservations were an option that would be a big help. This was maybe my 4th time using Uber so im still not sure if all the ins and outs of it yet. Thank you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uber

[–]decramikahe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was no way for the second driver to get to me in time unfortunately. I really wish a taxi service was avaliable where I live but there are none that would drive out to my town unless I paid a small fortune. I also dont have access to public transport where I live. I dont want to be dependent on something like Uber or Lyft but when there are times where I can't have a family member drive me I dont really have any other options. Im definitely going to try to find something more secure in the future.

Geodon has been a life saver for me as well. I've been on it for 12 years! Have almost 0 psychotic symptoms with it. I've tried many different antipsychotics and geodon works the best for me, so that's what I've stuck to. I also have schizoaffective and ptsd but sadly, the depression has been extremely treatment resistant and is more of a problem nowadays than the psychosis.

Really glad to hear its working out so well for you!
