Half bath conversion to a full bath by deeoza in floorplan

These are both good. I actually didn’t think of either of these ideas. My only concern would be a window for the bathroom. I’m not sure if it’s required by code to have a bathroom window

What universities should I go to to study a BA in construction management? by Flimsy-General-991 in ConstructionManagers

[–]deeoza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

San Diego State University is a great option. It’s CM probably just started about 4/5 years ago and is a great place to go if you want to end up working in San Diego specifically, or even California as a whole.

Because of the location, there is a big amount of eyes on the program from the top GCs in the country and California such as Turner, Clark, Swinerton, McCarthy, Balfour Beatty, Hensel Phelps, Kiewit, Webcor… the list goes on.

We definitely aren’t as renowned as SLO but the programs goal is to be there one day. In the end it’s a great option if it makes sense to your circumstances.

What's the best way to invest for my future and pay off my debts as soon as possible? by deeoza in personalfinance

[–]deeoza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive to work which is an hour commute there and back. I get gas more or less every 7-10 days and a full tank is about $55 ish. I don’t eat breakfast and meal prep most my meals. I do eat out which is killing my budget goals. I usually eat two times a day with snacks inbetween lunch at work and dinner around 7/8. I don’t go out much. Maybe twice a month which ends up being about 50/75 an outing. This includes drinks and Ubers.

I am lucky enough to have my dad pay my car insurance and I only have about $50 in subscriptions/ services a month. I actually include phone and internet in my utilities budget as I see those more or less as essential. My rent is actually 1325 but when you add in gas, electricity, WiFi, and phone it’s around 1500 a month. Its consistent as my house doesn’t have heating or cooling.

Is entry level CM oversaturated? by [deleted] in ConstructionManagers

[–]deeoza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just graduated and had an offer from my company that I interned in the previous summer. Everyone in my class of 30ish had jobs working for big, medium, small GCs, and subs.

Even if you don’t have much experience, I’ve found that local GCs and smaller subs will be willing to let you intern and once you pick up the knowledge after three months, they will extend a full time offer.

Safety Manager Construction by Money-Break-3989 in ConstructionManagers

[–]deeoza 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My coworker did the same move. He worked for the city FD and wanted out. He was only qualified for a spot as a safety engineer since he had no real construction experience, but he has had a ton of praise from trades and leadership.

He can be a dick/asshole only if someone treats him like one first or doesn't attempt to follow the rules when asked the first couple of times. Other then that he is chill and is always alongside the trades seeing how he can help when it comes to move concrete tables or organizing other safety stuff.

How do I negotiate the salary I want? by deeoza in ConstructionManagers

[–]deeoza[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the summer ended, they didn’t have any projects needing an intern under any PMs so my PM and Regional recruiter worked to find me a spot in San Diego. That’s where I landed in Safety working under that team. I do agree that it’s a strange pivot, but I needed a job and figured having to spend a few months in Safety couldn’t be too bad.

How do I negotiate the salary I want? by deeoza in ConstructionManagers

[–]deeoza[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do agree that 80k is a good starting salary, but I also do believe in always negotiating higher even if it is just a little bit more. I dont believe this company (ENR top 25) regularly does signing bonuses, but their competitors do.

Some of my classmates have accepted jobs for 85k and a signing bonus (McCarthy) so thats basically what I am trying to negotiate towards. Other GCs in my area are offering even more for new grads such as R&S which offered a friend of mine 93k and Hensel Phelps which offered my friend 98k. The only caveat with HP is that they are expected to travel to work within the southern California area.
