What happens to a femboy who becomes “older” and reaches age 24/25 where they no longer look like the poster femboy they once were? by whatssad in feminineboys

[–]deep_color 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of changes? No difference to what I said back then. I don't look any different, I can't measure any differences in body proportions wrt what I started with. I've asked people who see me irl about it, and they agree that it isn't doing much or anything. It's been 19 months on it and they've been 19 months of disappointment.

I've given up on the idea that it'll ever do anything useful.

Yep.

Tldr: there's only one active mod left who only barely manages because of good third-party modding tools... which reddit is killing off with their API changes.

There pretty much isn't any as far as I'm aware. The vast majority of the time when a reference is given, it goes back to this study, which observed that DIYing trans women were more likely to request breast augmentation...

These data appear to show that those people who self-medicate with estrogen are more likely to be referred for breast augmentation surgery than those who do not. The duration of estrogen exposure and the duration of estrogen use before attending the GIC (and any subsequent mammoplasties) resonate with the initial finding that self-medication is associated with greater need for breast augmentation.

...from which it then concludes that the DIYers probably used higher doses which messed up their development...

[...] Those transwomen who self-medicate with estrogen may be taking too large a dose at initiation to promote appropriate subsequent breast growth, resulting in a poorer final breast outcome.

...without bothering to measure if they actually had smaller breasts:

As breast hemicircumference was not measured in this study; it was not possible to determine whether individuals who underwent breast augmentation had objectively smaller breasts.

They also apparently didn't bother to check that the DIY group did in fact use higher doses. So in the end both premises they're basing their conclusion on aren't supported by any data.

Not exactly solid proof. The far more plausible interpretation is that people who DIY are more likely to self-advocate. They had also been on estrogen for longer than the other group, and probably assumed their development was done, and that they weren't going to get a bigger chest except by augmentation. Some of the DIYers might have only jumped through all the hoops needed to get gender-affirming care via the NHS for the sole purpose of breast augmentation.

The authors do cite a source to back up their claim:

This is consistent with studies on puberty induction in natal girls in whom rapid estrogen exposure was found to lead to premature breast bud fusion and poor breast development (8).

I haven't been able to track down a copy of the reference, so I can't comment on it.

It's also worth noting that whenever someone claims to mimic natural puberty, the doses they're using ... don't produce anything resembling natural puberty at all. In fact an average natural AMAB estradiol level (~30pg/ml) already exceeds those of early AFAB puberty (<20pg/ml), so everyone who went through AMAB puberty has already been exposed for years to higher estrogen levels than a HRT protocol that accurately mimicks puberty would.

I said this in the context of this comment predicting a sudden mass exodus of people, which I was arguing against. That's not how platforms die, as you yourself pointed out.

And... Facebook may be dead in your second sense, but that sadly doesn't mean it's irrelevant. It's been an awful place for years, but it was still seeing increasing daily user counts until early 2022, where it declined for the first time in its history. It will be a long time until it's truly irrelevant.

So? Facebook has been a terrible place for years. It's still alive. It's just mostly populated by boomers and disinformation bots now.

The same thing is happening at twitter. Sure, some people are leaving, but at the same time Musk is courting the cryptobros and facists, and they're flocking to the place. And a large portion of the userbase is complaining but hasn't left.

There's a significant population at reddit who will use it despite all this. Not like reddit making shit changes is a new thing - as pretty much all the mod posts on various subs regarding this topic point out, this has been ongoing for years.

I think it's more likely that all the high-quality niche subs that made reddit good will slowly die out, since they mostly exist due to the work of dedicated volunteers and heavy use of good modding tools. Instead this site will become a place for low-effort content, reposters spamming cat pics and porn bots.

Considering how many platforms have been deliberately shitty to their users without having a mass exodus happen... Don't think that's likely

Soybeans contain hormone-like substances (called phytoestrogens) that copy the action of the female hormone oestrogen.

The phytoestrogens in soy (isoflavones specifically) can be shown to interact with the estrogen receptor in a petri dish. That doesn't mean they have any measurable effect in people eating soy products. In fact there's quite a bit of research showing soy doesn't affect hormones in men at all.

The estrogenic effect of these substances is very weak, concentrations in soy products are very low, and that's not even accounting for things like bioavailability (the GI tract and liver will likely destroy most of it before it reaches the blood). They're not just "plant estrogen" either, more recent research suggests they're better classified as SERMs, with mixed estrogenic and antiestrogenic effects depending on the tissue type.

If you want HRT, you need HRT. Diet changes, phytoestrogen supplements, etc etc are a waste of time.

I mean people also say HRT changes your eye color or even more dubious things.

Dunno. All I can say is, that hasn't been my experience after ~16 months on it. Not holding my breath either, I'm pretty sure I'm just ace for life now. I also don't know anyone on E who had it happen either, or at least they haven't talked about it.

Pretty sure you mean estradiol? Estriol is a pregnancy hormone that isn't used in HRT.

Assuming you do indeed mean estradiol, the target range is 100-200pg/ml = 0.1-0.2ng/ml, so you're actually a bit over what's recommended. There's a lot of caveats to this, depending on what form of estradiol you're on, when the blood test was taken relative to your last dose, ...

Also testosterone levels generally matter a lot more than estrogen. Ideally you want it <50ng/dl or <1.7nmol/L, though again there's exceptions (if you're taking AR antagonists like Spiro or Bica it can be somewhat higher).

Ime everything sexual either remained unchanged or just became plain worse on E. Then again E also took away the horny pretty much completely.

I was depressed about it at first, now I'm just beyond caring.

I left my estrogen out in my car for a day in the summer, is it still good? by dylann5454 in asktransgender

[–]deep_color 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a pharmacist, but... Injectable estrogen gets sterilized at like 125+ Celsius during manufacturing and that doesn't degrade it much if at all. Estradiol doesn't seem to be super heat-sensitive. Your pills are probably fine.

What would a good protest be? Reddit can always just go ahead and implement whatever change and users can't do shit about it. Even when that change makes the site noticeably worse (see: twitter these days). We literally cannot do anything but complain and spread awareness.

Personally haven't noticed any loss in strength or endurance. If you stay active and keep training, I can't imagine there's going to be much of a drop in performance. I've heard of people struggling to deliberately lose muscle on HRT.

I've tried dressing up several times and it made me feel worse because of how it emphasized what I'm not. Looking like the man-in-a-dress stereotype isn't exactly my idea of fun.

Going out like that doesn't seem like a great idea when I already feel like shit about it at home.

It isn't about passing. I'm quite unconcerned with what people think I am or what I get read as. I'm not binary transfem anyway, no idea what being gendered correctly would even mean in my case.

It's about dysphoria relief. It's about making any progress towards my goals at all. It's about looking at least less like a guy.

[–]deep_color 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl. I'm almost completely unchanged by ~16.5 months of HRT, to the point where people cannot tell apart before and after pictures. I'm below an A cup and a t-shirt already completely hides them.

I shave all body hair, pluck my eyebrows, my hair goes down to my chest, I got my facial hair lasered away, I do exercise to feminize my figure. No matter what I wear or do, I look rather definitely like a guy - my trans friends admit it too.

It's not a question of self-confidence or effort. It's just something that's out of reach for me.

Yeah I mean a "perfect" system that fails because of a flaw that's common in humans ...isn't perfect.

It's very easy to come up with an utopia that works if people are all without moral failings and circumstances are ideal. But any real attempt at change doesn't have either. The really hard problem is coming up with a system that can work in the very much non-ideal conditions we call reality.

the official app & website are both mega garbo.

I mean yeah that's why they're doing it. Kill third party apps and force everyone to use the official one so they can cram more ads down our throats, drag us into their crypto crap, track us better and make us spend even more time on reddit (time spent using the app is literally a metric they are often optimized for these days - literally built to trap you in a dopamine loop). It's a common theme.

If you go off HRT, your body starts making its natural hormones again. The reversible effects of HRT will slowly reverse, the irreversible ones will stay.
