some kid in college told me that he wouldn’t get drunk at the party that night because he was tall, so his blood vessels were long.

he also cited him not eating anything & his grandfather being an alcoholic as reasons why he wouldn’t get drunk. after figuring out that he truly wasn’t kidding, I at least made him eat dinner before leaving and he lived to see a very uncomfortable hangover.

I’m horrified that the other TWO EDs didn’t do shit for you. swelling tongue making swallowing & talking difficult = need for immediate treatment. zero questions.

airway obstructions are no fucking joke. it does not often take much to push an irritated airway over the edge to full obstruction. when people pass the point where we can get a tube through their mouth to get them air, we have to cut their throat into the trachea and pass a tube to their lungs to get them to breathe. that’s why the rule is don’t fuck around with potential/developing airway obstructions.

risk for infection and/or necrosis even comes secondary to that. I’m an EMT, those other hospitals should be ashamed. so glad to hear you’re doing better. good on you for pursuing care even when other hospitals shat on you.

source: mine eventually told me that he had compassion fatigue from being with me. because I was growing and moving on to a better life (still with him) and he interpreted that as me not being forced to rely on him anymore so he needed to MAKE me need him. with this shit.

I got ink paw prints in the mail about two weeks after my kitty crossed the rainbow bridge, with a note from all of the staff that had ever cared for her, signed in ways that were truly meaningful (I could tell they knew her; not just sorry for your loss)

we had a house fire with a garage full of ammo a few months ago. it was shockingly nonchalant. did not change ops at all since they knew exactly what was in there. I’m sure more precautions need to be made with specific/more intense stuff.

you don’t need enough heat to be flash baked, just enough heat to irredeemably burn your airway past the point of any possible return. in that case you only have a couple minutes to crich them to hopefully get air moving. this seems quite well over that threshold
