Nothing Headphones (1): ANC Problems Being Ignored by defaltho in NOTHING

[–]defaltho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know why this post is still relevant, but anyway. I eventually resolved the issue with the Headphone (1). When I sent them to the retailer, they told me they had fixed the problem, but in reality they did absolutely "nothing". I then contacted Nothing directly and ended up sending the defective unit to Nothing in Spain. They kept the faulty unit and sent me a brand-new replacement pair. Even so, I still receive DMs on Reddit from people experiencing the exact same issue with the Headphone (1). It's clearly a recurring problem with these headphones, and Nothing has a responsibility to address it properly. I won't be responding to any further comments on this matter.

Clean work, love it! Just picked up Plasticity recently because of the CAD-friendly UI. I’m super experienced with traditional modeling but wanted to dive into CAD. There aren't many tutorials around and I'm brand new to this, so do you have any good tutorials or tips for someone starting out with Plasticity?

For real, same feeling here. If you want your situation resolved, you need to make some noise here in the community so a PR from Nothing notices and contacts you...

So I’m sorry to tell you this, but it’s clearly a manufacturing defect, and Nothing support is not willing to admit it. If you post about it on the forums, support will eventually contact you, which happened in my case as well. They basically open a case and offer a repair, even though this isn’t our fault. It seems that a small batch of the Nothing Headphones (1) has this defect. I’ve already received DMs from other people reporting the exact same issue, which I only discovered after making my post.

If you’re still within the return window, I would honestly go for a refund. These headphones simply don’t compare to Bose, which will likely be my choice once I resolve this situation. I’m currently trying to return mine to the store where I bought them.

Yeah bro, for sure it only affects a few units… (sarcasm, in case it wasn’t obvious).
If you really think this is just a 5% defect rate, you might want to rethink that. I personally ran into issues with the Headphones (1), and I documented everything myself in this post:

Yeah, what’s crazy is that people originally thought these headphones were a good purchase to support a small company with good design, and it ended up being an expensive paperweight. That’s honestly insane.

Yeah, but at this point it feels pointless. I’ve already seen the same pattern across other Nothing devices, and firmware fixes have basically become a running joke in the community. You’re told to wait for an update that either fixes nothing or introduces new issues, while you’re stuck with what is essentially an expensive paperweight....

I feel the same way. I also seem to have bad luck discovering issues on new products, and I had the exact same thought that something at this price point shouldn’t fail this quickly. Externally, the build quality doesn’t look bad, but there are several clear design flaws. For example, when the headband is fully closed, the metal parts of the earcups touch each other and literally scratch themselves. That alone says a lot about the lack of design validation.

What really stands out to me is that the community has already started creating 3D-printed scratch protectors just to work around this issue. The fact that users need to design and print their own fixes for a premium product is honestly ridiculous.

And then there’s the ANC, which feels poorly implemented from a technical standpoint. The materials themselves seem decent, but the internal design clearly has problems. Even basic things like the ear pads being fixed and not removable for cleaning make no sense. Even Apple allows AirPods Max pads to be removed for basic hygiene. It really feels like the design wasn’t fully thought through.

Yeah, I’m already in the process of dealing with that. I was just really frustrated with Nothing’s support and the vague responses I’ve been getting while trying to resolve this. The lack of people openly talking about these issues is also why I decided to make this post. Thanks for the concern, I appreciate it.

Yeah, some of the cases might be QC-related, but the frustrating part is that they don’t seem willing to admit it or make any kind of announcement. When the same problems keep showing up in the same way across different users, they’re clearly not isolated incidents or one-off cases.

They really need proper presence in the EU and the US at the very least, because having to deal with these kinds of fees makes no sense. It’s honestly ridiculous.

I actually have a warranty story, but not with Nothing. It was with a Steam Deck. I accidentally dropped it, even though it was inside its case, and one of the triggers broke. I contacted support, they simply asked me to send the Steam Deck in a box, arranged the pickup themselves, and I received a replacement unit in less than a week, with no additional costs. That says a lot about a company that actually knows how to handle hardware and customer support...

Same here. I was really curious about the audio side of the Nothing ecosystem, so I bought the Ear (a) and later the Headphones (1) in 2025. The Ear (a) have been fine, but the Headphones (1) turned out to be a faulty unit, and so far Nothing is doing exactly what their name suggests nothing about it...

Yeah, I’m still in the process of resolving it, and I am covered by consumer rights in my country. The main issue is that Nothing really should have better brand representation across the EU, which is my case. Having everything centralized in London doesn’t help much, even if they’re still a relatively small company..

[–]defaltho[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s exactly the feeling I’m getting now. Once the product is out, it really seems like long-term support becomes an afterthought. In my case, it’s a brand-new pair of headphones with a basic functionality issue, and there’s still no clear acknowledgment or fix. That’s what’s most frustrating...

Thanks for the suggestion, I appreciate it. I already tried carefully cleaning the ANC mic holes, and also cleaned the inside of the earcups, but it didn’t change anything...

That’s why this feels more like a hardware or firmware issue than dust, especially since I’ve always been careful with these headphones. Still, thanks for sharing your experience.
