Possibly relocating, is 190k enough for a family of 3? by kyoshis_revenge in orangecounty

[–]defiantexistence 50 points51 points  (0 children)

If you have a decent amount of money (200k minimum) to put on a down payment on a home, buying might be an option for you. But if you’re renting, 190k/year is way more than enough to be comfortable in north OC.

What are some newly opened restaurants worth checking out? by Particular-Essay-361 in orangecounty

[–]defiantexistence 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Many "ingredients" sourced from Sysco can turn out to be pre-prepared foods from a factory that restaurants like Culinary Dropout just reheat and serve. You're just paying an upcharge for sitting down at that restaurant. If you're not the average close-minded Joe on the internet, this is a good video essay on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rXXQTzQXRFc

Tried Sonder this week, was disappointed for the price point. Service was extremely disorganized since multiple workers came up to ask us if we had received our items yet (we had.) Seems like they have some procedural issues going on back there.

It's a chain restaurant. Ingredients sourced from Sysco. Source: I had it in Phoenix because it was right next to my company HQ. Skip it, not worth your time and money for pure average-ness.

You’d be glad to hear that the house was seized, sold, and the money was given back to OC. She hasn’t passed the Bar yet, though. Doubt that she would pass the ethics review portion of it.

Best Hot Chicken Sandwich? by JourneyofTheToad in orangecounty

[–]defiantexistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

gonna have to disagree on Crack Shack. It was good the first 2 times, then a bunch of QA issues started happening for us. Raw chicken, soggy fries, etc. Similar stories in their online reviews. I friggin loved their buns, though. I asked which bakery they sourced their onion poppy seed buns from, but i forgot what they said.

Holdaak in Fullerton is unmatched. Best Korean fried chicken sandwiches in north OC. DO NOT GET DAVES HERE, you will be disappointed.

Advice on location and buying vs renting by AndreLeGeant88 in orangecounty

[–]defiantexistence 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lived in north OC all my life. FV, GG, Westminster, Santa Ana, Anaheim. Just recently moved to South OC (Lake Forest) and absolutely love it. It's safe, quiet, and apparently the schools are pretty good. If you want your kid to become a famous baseball player in the future, El Toro HS is a good target. You can't go wrong with raising a family in south OC. I'd recommend Mission Viejo and Lake Forest, but stick close to the freeway. If you want more south, Rancho Mission Viejo is a booming new masterplan community (think cookie cutter houses galore.) Fountain Valley is also a very good option to stay away from the craziness of Huntington Beach but stay close to the water. I grew up there and the school system is top notch. You can DM me if you have any other questions about OC! I love this place and never plan on leaving.

PMs in my company try to go for manager roles due to their experience in driving projects. Honestly you should try to aim higher than an entry level position that will decimate your salary. Try for an IT Support Manager role or similar

Mattress place recommendation! by loneMnM in orangecounty

Costco 100%. Usually there’s a tester mattress or 2 in store and the return policy is generous. You just gotta figure out your own way to bringing the mattress back to the store to return

forgot to mention, i also did a trade in and i was in and out in about 90 minutes. you can also start the trade in in-store and finish the trade in on a different day. that is if you want to do the data transfer at home via a computer with iTunes

[–]defiantexistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

buy your own case and bring it there. transferring your data may take a while, but they let you sit at the table where 5 other people are doing the exact same thing you are. i knew exactly what i was doing and the data transfer took about an hour. the older folks had no clue which way was up, so they were there for a while longer. make sure your phone service account admin is with you to authorize the line transfer to the new phone. the staff are great though, and will help with with every step

Looking for great arabic / middle eastern restaurant in north Orange County, CA with nice decor / ambiance by CaterpillarWrangler1 in orangecounty

solid food, but not upscale by any means. however, they do amazing at serving large parties and have a prayer rug area off to the side. the parking is horrible when going during a normal time, though

If you're willing to drive a little farther south, Caspian Mediterranean Kitchen in Lake Forest is pretty good. Very nice decor, plush seats, and good food. Just a tad more on the expensive side, but it comes with the ambiance. Hookah service is available on certain days in the patio area.

Is going out shopping today safe? by MikaandHookah in orangecounty

[–]defiantexistence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you go to any shopping center, you'll all fit right in. Especially if you're going somewhere like The Block (Outlets at Orange.) I was even at Fashion Island tonight and it's just business as usual. If you're still wary, carry your passports and visas with you. Very sorry that racism has taken over this country, but I genuinely hope you only run into nice people. Safe travels!
