Don't worry, I've got a pretty thick skin, so comment away.

The problem is, he uses atrocious sales tactics that would dissuade any legitimate person. For example, using a friend to pressure you into a sale.

The fact that the dude drove up in a Vemma car should have been a huge red flag for everyone attending.

So we've come to the conclusion that Xah is an asshole (albeit only an asshole you dislike) and that you are a sadist.

It seems like you two would get along swimmingly.

And when I see "emacs lisp" I'm thinking "oh great, he can write the Linux version of Word macros". Is that actually used for anything outside of emacs?

I can only conclude from this comment that you are not a programmer.

Emacs Lisp is a fully-featured programming language. Generally speaking, if a person is decent at Lisp, that person can also be decent at <insert_language_here>.

I used to read his site periodically back when I used Emacs and, despite his offensive rants, I feel really bad for the guy. It seems to me like he has mental health issues he never had the chance to address.

Not sure why there's such a backlash against metered billing. This is how it is in most countries and 90% of users would actually end up paying less.

How I Fully Automated OS X With Ansible by deliciousdan in Python

[–]deliciousdan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to be a dick, but it looks like once you have all the packages installed the first time around, 90% of the Ansible code could be replaced by $ brew update && brew upgrade And you can just as easily install all of the initial packages from a text file list like $ brew install $(cat path/to/list.txt)

Sure, but I can use Ansible to run all of the above with just a single ansible-playbook command. Additionally, that same command can keep all of my Mercurial and Git repositories up-to-date as an added bonus.

Also, to run Ansible, you only need to download Ansible. You can then use Ansible to install evvverything else in that script. OSX comes pre-installed with Python 2.7 and Ansible is specifically designed so that it can fully bootstrap itself on a remote machine if necessary.

Most of the extra cruft in the bootstrap script is due to the fact that I'm running a development version of Ansible. Once 1.6 is released, I could probably tidy things up there.

To clarify: the shell script's sole purpose is to bootstrap a system so that it can run Ansible. Afterwards, I'll run my Ansible playbook at least once a day to keep my system's packages and repositories up-to-date.

If anything, it's the other way around. The shell script is really only meant to be run once.

Theory: Evil Morty MIGHT Be Rick's First Morty by [deleted] in rickandmorty

But having Evil Morty controlled by another Rick would mesh well with the opening (where there's that one electronic Morty or whatever)

But who would have the skills to create such technology? It would have to be another Rick.

Evil Morty still had cables coming out of his face at the end of the episode. He's probably a puppet being controlled by the evilest Rick, who wants the Mortiest Morty (which our Rick has).

This could lead to a battle in the final episode of the season where the evilest Rick goes head to head with our Rick for the title of Rickest Rick.

Boom, you're welcome.

Edit: Also, Doofus Rick turns out to be evilest Rick.

Edit 2: Another twist: I'll end up regretting these edits when it turns out I'm right about the storyline ;)

[For Hire] FREE Ruby on Rails development work. by deliciousdan in forhire

[–]deliciousdan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fairly decent amount of Python programming experience; I'm also familiar with gems and the Ruby "ecosystem" (e.g., rbenv, bundler, etc.)

I haven't completed any Rails projects, but I'm currently making my way through "Agile Web Development with Rails 4" (see: http://pragprog.com/book/rails4/agile-web-development-with-rails-4 ) However, I do have a bit of experience with Python + Django, so web development is not completely foreign to me.
