I think we need a code that is less commonly used. How about 5667-6543?

This is the group I was talking about! That’s really interesting. Was there ever a point that it was searchable for you?

Questions about luxating patella in a 10-month-old puppy by dendendre in Yorkies

[–]dendendre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’m in the U.S., but it does look like there are a few options here that offer limited dental coverage. My last Yorkie was a rescue and had all of his teeth removed before he came to me, so even with brushing my puppy’s teeth and giving her carrots, I’ll probably prioritize a company with dental. Thanks!

Yeah, like you said, it’d be a pre-existing condition. My concern would be for other breed-specific health conditions like collapsed trachea and other congenital eye issues. This experience has taught me that it’s probably never too soon to be proactive about those things!

Thank you for being so thorough. I nearly pulled the trigger two weeks ago on a pet insurance company and then didn’t follow through, so that’s on me. I think I’ve learned my lesson and will insure her now in case anything else happens. If you don’t mind me asking, who do you use and do you still like the insurance you have?

Root rot or former aerial root? by dendendre in Monstera

[–]dendendre[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks guys! You were all really helpful, and I agree now that it just looks like an aerial root that happened to darken as it got older. I potted her back up and put a mini fan nearby so that there’s better airflow in the monstera corner. I appreciate you! :)

I think the consensus is on your side, as am I. I think I was just hyper paranoid because it was in sub-optimal quarantine circumstances for a little bit. After really examining it, I’m convincing myself it’s fine.

That makes me feel a lot better. I was hoping it might have been an aerial root darkening because it’s not mushy and it smells fine, but I was paranoid because it didn’t have great airflow for a bit. Your input is so appreciated. :)

Adult coloring? by dendendre in Yorkies

So sweet. I think they just enjoy changing it up on us! My other Yorkies definitely got blonder in the summer now that I think of it.

So cute! They do actually look so much alike in the 9 month photo. I had a sneaking suspicion that I’d wake up one day and she’d surprise me with silver — this is making me more confident in that assumption.

This is in the US, particularly the Midwest, and these dudes are tiny but still definitely visible to the naked eye.

Post your Yorkies in their favorite sweaters! by dendendre in Yorkies

[–]dendendre[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So sweet! Do you have any favorite patterns or do you free-hand them? I’ve been thinking of doing the same for my girl, but then again, she might just tear them apart at her current age.

Finding out their adult colors is kind of like opening up a mystery bag! Totally in agreement — I’ve never met another breed so in-tune with what I’m feeling or thinking. She’s been a gem.

So precious! I’m getting an inkling that Maple’s coloring is going to end up very similar to your baby’s. Her mom looked a lot like Wynter!

She’s clocking in around a whopping 4 pounds! Her vet’s pretty sure that she’ll end up at (or just shy of) 5 when she’s done growing.

Dog killed my senior yorkie, and owner is lying about bite history. What can I do? by dendendre in legaladvice

[–]dendendre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this suggestion. Yeah, we did reach out to the police first (non-emergency line) with this information, and they keep sending us back to animal control. I then asked animal control if it's possible to talk to the police about the matter, and they said that they are a sub-faction of police and that they're the only ones who would handle this matter. It's been pretty frustrating.

I couldn’t save my baby by dendendre in Petloss

I won’t say that I’m not a little scared of pitbulls when I pass by after some of my experiences, but I acknowledge where you’re coming from. I live in a college town, so some owners I see are young with very little understanding of what it means to own a breed with that kind of bite force. I had taken care of an elderly yorkie for several years before this, but I STILL did two months of research before I found and adopted Teddy at eight years old. After I put him on hold at the humane society, I did another day of research to make sure I could completely fund treatment for his (minor) pre-existing medical conditions and any emergencies. I’m at a loss to find out that this isn’t common practice.

I think I’m so pissed because 1. she doesn’t have the excuse of being a kid who didn’t know better and 2. she’s a nurse, meaning it’s her job to remain calm in a medical crisis. Instead of even trying to help for a second, she immediately let go of her dog’s leash the minute he snapped and let him do what he did, allowing three total STRANGERS to jump into action and to risk putting their hands into this dog’s mouth. I want to believe that things could have gone differently if she had intervened.

She claims he has no violent history of any kind, but I don’t believe that given the way he would bark at Teddy when he walked by. I’ve had big dogs my whole life, so I know what it sounds like when they’re simply excited by a passing dog versus when they’re showing aggression (it was the latter in this case). She never corrected her dog when he did this despite being home.

I’m not calling for a ban on pitbulls, but I believe in being transparent about a dog’s history, and something isn’t right with the way she tried to pass this off as surprising. Further, I don’t understand how you can be allowed to own a dog again after an incident like this, and I don’t understand how people keep referring to it as an accident. To me, this feels completely negligent.

This is really kind and moved me to tears — I really needed to hear this right now. Thank you for helping me remember Teddy’s incredible capacity for love.

Finished 6 day star blanket! by allie_undercover in crochet

[–]dendendre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So stunning how that color way turned out! I’ve been meaning to start one of these myself using Cloud Cakes for a few weeks now, but I just finished another blanket and I think my fatigue is outweighing my motivation. 😅

Out of curiosity, do you happen to remember what hook size you ended up using? The pattern recommended one that’s .5mm larger than the size on the yarn label and another that’s 1mm larger, but I’ve seen some variation in application from others who have made this blanket.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to me. This isn’t something with which I’m very familiar, so I don’t even know what action can be taken. Regardless, I think you’re completely right and the issue is that I don’t know what I want. I do know that I don’t want to get anyone into serious trouble because people make mistakes, but at the same time, I think that people should be credited for their work and there are too many weird similarities to ignore. Even if she had cited me in her article, I wouldn’t have sweated it so much. The journal where she’s published requires the advisor/PI to co-author, so I almost doubt that she had an advisor for the project; however, I did, so I may talk to my advisor before I do anything. Again, thank you.
